Subject: Stand with these 22 progressive Army chaplains: Investigate anti-LGBTQ colonel chaplain (signature needed)
To: (name withheld)

Dear (name withheld),

On April 29, an evangelical Army chaplain distributed a book to fellow chaplains that hatefully claims “some people will be infected with the coronavirus as a specific judgment from God” for so-called “sins” like same-sex relationships.

Colonel Moon H. Kim, senior chaplain at Camp Humphreys in South Korea — America’s largest overseas base — used his official Army email account to send a digital copy of John Piper’s Coronavirus and Christ to subordinate officers. Many of the colonel’s fellow chaplains were outraged by his blatant discrimination and unconstitutional evangelizing.

Twenty-two military chaplains, concerned for the religious liberty and pastoral care of their troops, have reached out to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) for help asking the Pentagon to investigate and discipline Chaplain Kim. Let’s show the Army that grassroots Christians support these 22 chaplains and their request to reprimand the colonel.

Military chaplains have an important job: Ensure that service members are able to freely practice their religion wherever they are posted, as well as provide them and their families with pastoral care. Distribution of hateful anti-LGBTQ materials is a failure on both counts.

According to the Army Times, the MRFF says Piper’s book “sends a message to military personnel that lacks pastoral care.” One of the chaplains working with MRFF added, “It puts junior chaplains in an uncomfortable position… It’s yet another incident where a senior chaplain is pushing along a particular theological agenda.”

Public pressure on the Pentagon can get results: After Navy Captain Brett Crozier was fired for publicly protecting sailors from COVID-19, public outcry led to his reinstatement and the acting Navy secretary’s resignation. Raise your voice today to make a difference against coronavirus misinformation, for LGBTQ rights, and for religious freedom!

Infidel, do you know of anyone going to heaven or hell and coming back to you and tell you that they exist or not?
