Dear Mikey,

As a devout Christian and supporter both financially and through my time to your organization, I am very disappointed to hear about an Eagle Scout project in Monument Colorado. The project clearly was one sided and didn’t take into account all the many faiths or atheists of the great men and women who sacrificed their entire life to serve the United States of America and are buried there.

As a Scoutmaster for over 20 years, I have mentored over 100 Eagle Scout projects.  This should have been stopped in the early process of this youth’s idea.    When a Scout meets with an advisor, it should always be with two adults. Never one on one.  One of those two adults should have caught this.  Once approved by these two adults, the scout goes before a committee and presents his idea to the committee of several adults (not the two who first approved).  This should have been caught here…. After the committee, the scout goes to the local council which absolutely should know better.   Pikes Peak Council, should have absolutely have caught this horrendous mistake.  There is no reason why this young man should have gone through all three steps and no one caught this mistake.    The Scout Executive has to sign a form when a scout asks to raise money so even the Scout Executive should have caught this.

Finally, as an Eagle Scout- BSA teaches inclusivity of all people. This project though well meaning from the boys side was an egregious mistake that needs to be corrected immediately.  I also wonder what the article stated:  “Carlson said the majority of the funds for the project were donated by the VFW Foundation through grants applied for by the VFW Auxiliaries in El Paso County.” What role did the VFW play?  This clearly should have been stopped by them.

I continue to support the work you do.  As you know I love the Scouting program- but they made a mistake up there in Pikes Peak Council.  I hope you continue to fight this.  The memorial needs to be removed or changed so it is inclusive of all military men and women irrespective of their faith or personal choice to not believe.

Ah, the hazards of superficial shoddy adult supervision of our youth today…
As others have put it, with all the layers of adult input & review needed for Eagle Scout proposed projects, why weren’t these unfortunate violations caught beforehand??

Is it jaded of me to view this projects’ abject failure in oversight not as an honest error but a willful attempt to bypass our nations constitution?

And as much as I want to give the Scout responsible for the memorial credit for ‘not knowing’ the rules surrounding the use of DOD insignia I know how extreme Christians raise their kids – to be soldiers for their faith (Jesus Camp anyone?)

This could get very ugly or be gone in a flash. Let’s see if all the players respond according to the rules in place of if this will become just another example of why extreme Christianists really need to be prohibited from expressing themselves in the public square.**

**We have snow today so my brain is a bit fanciful but to ensure the First Amendment rights of both the general public and Christianists are protected I suggest Christianists wear an umbrella hat that places the wearer in the middle of a six foot circle. If a Christianist agrees to keep their religious spewage to themselves while in public, they don’t have to wear the hat.

LOL – what am I thinking? Christianists are all about rules for thee but not for me. Well, I did say I was being fanciful.

Grey One – :This could get very ugly or be gone in a flash. Let’s see if all the players respond according to the rules in place of if this will become just another example of why extreme Christianists really need to be prohibited from expressing themselves in the public square.**

So you are calling for the removal of the first amendment, the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, our founding fathers guaranteed to all people. Grey One, you sound just like a Nazi did back in the 30’s which led to the extermination of six million Jews. Next thing you will want is for Christians to wear a yellow star on their clothing. Well, you will not remove our faith or expression of it from the public square at all. I know a lot of Christians and Jews who will not allow that to happen, and remember, the 2nd amendment was designed to protect the first amendment, and millions of us are locked and loaded to prevent Marxists like you from taking our religious freedoms away. What should happen is godless people like taken out in the public square and flogged with a cat of nine tails.

    Hey Grey One,

One more thing, Molan Laub if you dare!!

ZP – it’s Molon Labe you illiterate Christianist.

And I won’t have to ‘take anything’ because you and those like you will make it clear to good citizens everywhere your lack of manners and unwillingness to do better.

Learn to share. Understand your faith works for you but is not a legal basis for the rest of the nation. Behave with respect towards your fellow citizens – this isn’t all that hard. I bet most of the necessary skills were taught in the USA in kindergarten class.

My fanciful idea of an umbrella was to remind you that your rights end where mine begin. Interesting you immediately jump to yellow stars and claims of oppression. Hey, aren’t you on the side of the political aisle which accuses others of that which they themselves are doing to others?

Things that make one go hmmmm….

(Interesting to me that so many humans assume ‘liberals’ aren’t just as locked and loaded as people like ZP. As one of my favorite fictional characters says – I never said I couldn’t use a gun, I said I don’t like them.)

Zionist Pastor sounds more like a Saudi Muslim (Mutawa) with the reference to public floggings. Oh, wait a minute, Christian fundamentalism and Muslim Taliban – two sides of the same coin!
Obtw, Christianity, in case you haven’t noticed, is in serious decline. Your God will soon go the way of all other mythical Gods before it!

    Hey ZP,
    Molan Laub? Hahaha. Quintessential Trumper!
Go find a capital building to break into!

ZP wants “godless people taken out in the public square and flogged with a cat of nine tails.” ZP writes “millions of us are locked and loaded to prevent Marxists like you from taking our religious freedoms away,” what he really means is that if theocrats can’t get the government to push THEIR religion at the rest of us, they’ll use violence to force their religion on us.
Thanks for showing us the sick need to control other people’s lives that theocrats usually try to hide behind their “we’re victim of of religious persecution” game.
As Ironmoped reminds us ZP’s last comment is another illustration that the biggest difference between the fundamentalist Bible thumpers and the fundamentalist Koran thumpers is the book they thump people with.
