Dear Military Religious ‘Freedom’ Foundation
Your stance on wreaths on veterans’ gravesites is just embarrassing. Christian ‘gang signs’, really? You should be ashamed of such a narrow minded, ‘we’re the only ones who can say what religious freedom is’ ideas. I am ashamed of you.
I would think you would be PROUD of what is being done for our deceased. Instead, you encourage ‘less’ participation in giving our young people awareness to honor and respect those who have died and gone before us.

Be ashamed. Be VERY ashamed of ‘Mikey Weinstein’ most especially but also any of those in your ‘organization’ that feel the same way.  If ever I was going to support your organization, you can be assured that you have lost any chance of that.

Dear (name withheld),
I refuse to use your clerical title because there are no Roman Catholic Priests, or Priests of the Oblates of St. Joseph in the Roman Catholic Diocese in which you reside. Nor can I find any Old Catholic, Traditional Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican Priests by your name in the area in which you reside and the only man in the city you live in with your name works in a service industry.
Please don’t assume that I am claiming that you are not a Priest, but there a lot of red flags. But the biggest red flag for me are your very ill informed ideas about religious liberty, and obvious ignorance of the Constitution. Likewise, the lack of respect that you display for the religious traditions of people whose religion does not permit their graves to be adorned in this matter.
These graves which are going to be blanketed with wreaths are in Federal and State owned, and taxpayer funded cemeteries. They contain the graves of veterans of every religion and those of none. The fact that Wreathes Across America is pretty much doing this indiscriminately shows a tremendous lack of respect for the dead and their survivors. Not only that, but the undermanned and overworked military and civilian personnel have to spend a lot of time to collect them, and separate what can be composted from that which is trash when they have to be disposed. The disposal of these wreaths is done at taxpayer expense.
Now if this were a Catholic or other Christian Church owned and operated the laying of wreaths would not be an issue at all as one would presume that all buried in those places are Christians whose traditions allow for this. Nor is it an issue in a private cemetery which has military graves in it so long as those who lay the wreathes respect the faith of the graves that they decorate.
Since I presume that you are a Christian, I would ask you what you would think if the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, or a State Military cemetery allowed Satanists to place Pentagrams on the graves of people who could not be verified to be Satanists on Halloween? Or a Muslim group to place a display of a Koranic verse on graves of non-Muslims during Ramadan? The list can go on and on. Would you consider such acts by others on government cemeteries as respectful of the Christian dead? I think not, you would probably call your Congressman to protest.
But were another group do this on their holy days Mikey Weinstein would be representing the people whose relatives were being decorated, or should we say desecrated by those who did not respect their beliefs. He would be defending their Constitutional rights, in fact 95% of his clients are self-identified Christians.
Your attempt to shame Mr. Weinstein for doing what even the Puritans would have done is disgraceful, and even more so if you are a Priest of any Christian Church. Your arrogance and disrespect is astounding. No wonder some 29% of Americans claim that they identify with no religion.
Have a Merry Christmas, I plan to.
Sincerely,
Fr. Steve Dundas, CHC, USN, (Retired)

Dearest “name withheld”–It is apparent to me from your jeremiad that you would fight for all religious beliefs, traditions, observances, and prohibitions. This heartens me because it means that without permission requested or prior notice required, I can place the symbols and perhaps a few inspiring words from the founder of the spiritual philosophy that I revere on the gravestones of your “christian” relatives and friends, and you will condone my support for my faith being imposed on unbelievers. I have read you correctly, have I not?

The writer talks about “what is being done for our deceased?” Really?
Like the deceased really have a say in whether or not their lives are being associated with any particular religion?
The families of the deceased may object to Christian attribution if they’re not Christian! Is this too hard to comprehend?
