In my opinion, our societal “handling” of events like the coach praying has been left up to happenstance rather than arming young Americans with the knowledge of how to effectively handle someone — especially an authority figure — who crosses the line that separates the secular from the religious. The root cause of the problem stems from people who wrongly (and stubbornly) assert that the USA was established as a “Christian nation.” That said, I enjoyed the broadcast, and will share it.
But the question remains of the process of teaching young Americans about the proper line between religion and the secular in our diverse society. Not taking this responsibility on has brought us to where we are — and makes the proper response and resolution much harder to achieve.
Adding to my above, relative to the term “grooming,” we need to groom millions of young Americans in how to properly confront someone who tries to violate the separation of religion and the secular state. One of the highest forms of spiritual practice is allowing each person their dignity to follow their conscience. This is being completely violated by religious zealots.
