17 Republican Congress Members Write to VA Secretary Demanding Christian Cross that MRFF Got Removed from VA Clinic Lobby Be Put Back

Before and after photos of Austin VA Clinic lobby showing that cross is gone

Two months ago, 19 veterans who receive medical care at the Austin VA Clinic in Texas asked MRFF to help them get a large, prominently displayed cross removed from the facility. The large cross, made up of copies of the military branch emblems arranged into the shape of a Christian cross, dominated a seating area in the first floor lobby of the building, sending the message that our military is Christian and only Christian veterans matter.

Within 90 minutes of Mikey Weinstein’s demand that the cross be removed, it was gone.

But now a group of 17 Christian nationalist Republican Congress members are trying to get the cross put back up, claiming in a letter to the VA Secretary Denis R. McDonough that “Attempts to sterilize the public square – in this case a clinic that provides medical care to the veterans that sacrificed for our Republic – of all symbols of Christianity flies in the face of the very founding of our nation.”

So, 17 republican members led by Chip Roy of Texas wants the cross back up at the Austin, Tx VA. You know why?

Because Chip Roy knows intimately what it’s like to be a veteran. After all, he watched the 911 attack on the world trade center on TV while he was a law student at UT Austin!

Chip Roy knows what military service is all about! He watched re-runs of Hogan’s Heroes, er, wait a minute, maybe it was MASH, or Gilligan’s Island. I forget. But Chip Roy knows about military service, just ask him!

This is the same Chip Roy that helped Ted Cruz shut down the Government in 2013 for…..wait for it……..repeal of the Affordable Care Act (unsuccessfully).

He’s never really “practiced law,” excepting a short stint as assistant US Attorney. Instead, hanging onto the coat tails of John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with ghost writing Rick Perry’s book, you know, the one where Rick Perry calls social security a “Ponzi Scheme!” Just to let you know who this knucklehead is!

Yep, the Affordable Care Act reduced the number of uninsured veterans without health care by over 40%. But Chip Roy wants it to go away! Yeah, he knows what being a veteran is!!!

But nothing is more important for health care and treatment, particularly at a VA clinic, than a crucifix!

Even if you’re Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, or no faith at all!

If Chip Roy had served in the military, he would know about diversity and inclusion.

But he didn’t serve in the military and wouldn’t know military service if it bit him, right along with the other 16 members that signed on that have no military service! He says watching 911 called him to a life of public service. No it didn’t! It called him to a life of feeding at the public trough! If he was that Patriotic, why didn’t he “serve” his country in the military after 911? Well….he wasn’t quite that called to service! Military service? “Oh no, that’s hard! I don’t want to go that far! Being a bottom feeder, er, I mean, republican congressman, that’s the ticket! I get to say I support the military!”

The display of a cross in the lobby of a VA clinic advertises that “we are a Christian organization and welcome Christian veterans! The rest of you, go somewhere else if you don’t like it!”

Accommodating the Christian cross opens the door to accommodation of all other forms of religious iconography. So…..be careful what you ask for.

I may ask for an Atheist symbol to be displayed!

    Bottom line – it’s unconstitutional!

Strange how these same members of the Republican Party ignore the presence, in the same open letter to the nation, of Washington condemning a policy of loyalty to a political party over loyalty to law, policy, or patriotism.

“The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty. ”
    -George Washington, Resignation Letter, 1796

    Great quote Arminius!

Christianity is experiencing a rapid decline, down from 77% to 65% just in the last decade, a decline of 12%, while atheism, agnosticism, and nothing in particular is up 17% over the same period (Pew).

The Christian ship is taking on water and the bilge pumps just ain’t keeping up!

That’s why the concerted effort by these right wing MAGATs to include Christianity in everything they can, desperation the driving force, lest they lose their power and grift!

Texas is going to put the Ten Commandments in every school classroom and want classroom prayer (Christian) before the start of the school day, the tragic irony being that 50 copies in every classroom in Uvalde wouldn’t have stopped little babies from getting their faces blown off!

If crosses could stop mass shootings, I’d be all-in. But we all know the truth.

Look at the Baltimore sexual abuse by the Catholic clergy. Imagine yourself as a good Catholic parent, bringing your children to church, unknowing to be abused by the clergy, systemically, and in many cases, repetitively, over the years, the child too afraid to say anything. You, as that parent, only finding out years later that you had contributed to the sexual abuse of your little ones by way of your own Christian dedication and loyalty to the church, their innocence and self value completely destroyed, robbed of their souls and humanity by a trusted agent of God! Your God watched it happen and did nothing!

I see a cross and immediately think of mass shootings and the rape of babies! “Thoughts and prayers!”

The dwindling numbers are looking good. We’re getting closer to the truth all the time!

Remember the time Mikey sent a simp email to Joey Boy written like a 4th grader with his first gay crush.

“Having professional, experienced, non-mentally ill, non-cowardly, reasoned, rational, and intelligent leadership of our country returned to the fold is a true sine qua non bonanza to the health of our American Republic.”

Imagine calling Joe Biden professional, intelligent and reasoned without laughing.
If you read it without laughing, you win the internet for the day.

  5. Ironmoped May 25, 2023 at 10:03 pm

It looks like I just won the internet!

Imagine calling Donald small Johnson Trump professional, intelligent, and reasoned without laughing!

It’s akin to Marjorie Traitor Green calling for decorum in the House of Representatives! Even Republicans laughed at that one!

What was that cognitive test Trumpty passed? Man, woman, pussy, TV, diaper, and Stormy Daniels? Was that it? I forget, it was a hard test!

If you want to know how smart Trump is, just ask him, “I know words, lots and lots of words! The best words!” Or, “Why don’t we just nuke hurricanes?” Or, during the Covid crises, “I’ve got our doctors looking into injecting disinfectant! And shoving a light up your ass! Take horse de-wormer, that’ll knock it out in a minute.” Or, “I fell in love with Kim Jong Un” How ‘bout, “I can declassify documents just by thinking about them!” Or with his Daddy Putin, “he said he didn’t interfere and I believe him,” in spite of 17 intelligence agency assessments saying just the opposite. It goes on forever, endless. The dumb fuck wouldn’t wear a mask and……..gets Covid! Spreads it to his cabinet and to his MAGATs in rallies. Killed 600,000 Americans (the majority republicans), because of his great handling of the pandemic. Oh, he’s right up there in intellectual capacity! Said he was gonna repeal and replace Obamacare. Says he “built the wall,” but he built 50 miles of new wall. Said Mexico was going to pay for it and then stole money from the defense dept to help pay for it. Added $7.6 Trillion dollars to the National Debt. Withheld over $300 million in security assistance appropriated for Ukraine. Oh, he’s smart all right! How many of his staff were convicted? “I only hire the best people!” The best people he ever hired are the illegals he’s got working at Mar a Lago!

What did your man Rex Tillerson say about him? I think it went something like, “He’s a fucking moron!” Tillerson ought to be called out for insulting morons!

Calling Trump professional, intelligent, and reasoned says more about you!

I think your boy’s gonna be wearing orange here pretty soon. “Lock him up!”

Another of these Texas Christians makes his appeal to a church crowd to get more involved in politics. Texas’ very own Attorney General Ken Paxton. The top law-maker in the State of Texas! Looks like Gregg Abbot’s about to lose his legs a second time as his Attorney General and consigliere goes to jail for a myriad of crimes, not to mention that he grabbed another woman by the pussy! The aid to another State Senator. You know, the one he was banging while he implemented SB8, the Texas bounty law that pays you to turn in anyone you know that’s had an abortion. He then got her a job with a real estate developer and went into “repent” mode after it came to light and his wife of 27 years, another State Senator and good Christian, found out about it.

Funny how the Christian script plays out for all these Republican grifters when they get caught!

Yeah, that crucifix being on display in the Austin, Texas VA clinic is definitely symbolic! It symbolizes what the country becomes when you elect these “good Christian values” candidates to public office!

In fairness, they can’t help it. Everyone knows political power to a Christian male is an aphrodisiac. And those good Christian men without power? Just buy a bigger truck! You know, an “extension!”

“Thoughts and Prayers” for you Kenny Boy. Remember, if you go to jail, it was just part of God’s plan.
