MRFF Condemns Proposed Bill to Move National Prayer Breakfast Into Capitol Rotunda as Disgusting Christian Nationalism

US Capitol Building

Legislation being pushed by allies of the controversial group behind the National Prayer Breakfast would relocate the event to the symbolic heart of the U.S. Congress: The Capitol rotunda. The bill would do exactly what its title says: “Authorizing the use of the rotunda of the Capitol for the National Prayer Breakfast.” It was introduced by Rep. Tracey Mann (R-KS) and its sole co-sponsor is Rep. Frank Mrvan (D-IN).

The Freedom From Religion Foundation told me they’ll challenge the bill in court if it’s signed into law. It was called “deeply problematic” by Americans United for Separation of Church and State and a “disgusting example” of Christian nationalism by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

I think it’s a fight or flight response in the ranks of the Christian Nationalists (Republicans) to stay relevant. They know Christianity is on the downslide as the younger generation says no to the enforced fear-driven religiosity of those that owe their livelihoods to the continuation of the religious franchise.

It’s like a drowning man grabbing hold of anything to avoid drowning. They’re losing their power and will do anything to prop it up.

The good news is that Christianity is going to continue to wane, its tenants bound up in the actions of, in particular, the Christian bigots in Congress. It doesn’t take much to see right through their masquerade and the younger generation, in particular, is not having it!

I mean, you have Lauren Boebert telling the world she’s a good Christian and then engages in public sex in the Buell theater in Denver. MGT and her affairs at her own gym along with her drag-queen boyfriend and the public fondling of the crotch of a Trump cut out. Bridgette Ziegler, the good Christian school board member engaged in threesomes, her husband, the Florida Republican Chair charged with rape. Donald Trump himself convicted of rape. Larry Craig and his homo sexual trysts in public bathrooms for years. The list of these “do as I say” bigots is accelerating the decline of their own so-called Christian values and franchise membership.

The National Prayer breakfast. How ‘bout a National Day of Mourning for all those killed by mass shooters!

Write to your reps. Tell them NO to H.Con.Res 79.

The political critters arranging this mess are freaking and losing what wits they may have possessed.

    Here’s what I found (H/T JMG)

“NPR reports, when Americans are asked to check a box indicating their religious affiliation, 28% now check ‘none.’ A new study from Pew Research finds that the religiously unaffiliated – a group comprised of atheists, agnostic and those who say their religion is “nothing in particular” – is now the largest cohort in the U.S.”

Instead of working with their neighbors as their Lord and savior commanded these Christian nationalists decided to eliminate the competition. It’s really too bad they never read the book cover to cover like so many of us who’ve left the Christian faith. They’d have taken heed when reading the Golden Rule (defined here as “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” a biblical concept spoken by Jesus in Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12; and commonly referred to as the “Golden Rule.” “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.)

So Christian nationalists wanted to be hounded into oblivion, all mention of their faith removed (forcibly if necessary) from the public square? Weird but ok.

These aren’t my rules but the Christian nationalists. Not my fault they never read the book. But I do believe some humans will need therapy when this kerfluffle is all said and done. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Ironmoped, I’ve been aware of the National Day of Prayer breakfast since I was a wee not so gray baby gay.

The rhetoric has changed a bit, civil rights and marriage equality for the LGBTQA+ community are no longer the focus, but the hatred and arrogance has been amped up to a 15/10. I guess all those losses have them cranky.

I concur with your advice. Call/write to your Congress critters. Be polite even if you know the person representing you is a Christian nationalist. Their staff doesn’t deserve anyone’s ire. Long hours, little pay, and a non ending stream of vitriol from a myriad of sources. Yeah, be polite.

Democracy only works if We The People get involved. And the power of the people works. Your LGBTQA family member is a lot happier now, aren’t they? Still not out of the woods as calls for maiming and death still come from Christian nationalist sources but I guess they have the right to their opinion, just not the right to make their opinion legislation.

Vote, writer your congress critter. Call if writing is hard.

And you can’t do any of that then think these fascists trying to take over our great nation will get their comeuppance. Metaphysics 102 tells me that a persons intent sways a matter before them (makes double blind testing in quantum physics a bit tricky but thems the rules) meaning your thoughts matter. I’d get into the atomic level but I believe you got my point.

    Grey One,
I agree with the “Congress critters” part, lol. But… you know, my being nice, yeah, that’s prolly not gonna happen!

I’m used to, by a lifetime of military employment, pre and post decisional problem solving. Dialogue only occurs on the pre-decisional side of the equation and it’s usually centered on recognition of the problem with a few courses of action. Not a lot of time spent pre-decisional following the adage that an 80% solution now is better than a 100% solution too late – Gettysburg the standard.

Post decisional – the talking’s over, move out smartly, time to execute!

In my own defense, I’m a binary thinker by nature, much to my chagrin, a weak spot, tempered by the military leadership standard of “know thyself,” which usually slows me down a bit pre-decisional to check my three COAs.

I don’t have any gay family members, that I know of, but fully support being treated with dignity and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, race, background, status, etc, we being the only extant human species left of many to study. Wonder if the early hominids will get into heaven?

Completely agree that those on the right are fascists (cowardly playing follow the leader), and this country is on the precipice, the Jim Jones cult the road map to the new Gilead.

The good news is that Christian Evangelicals are starting to speak out and that Christians are beginning to realize their religion has been hijacked. Let’s hope it continues.

The quantum physics part? The Higgs boson is well beyond my level of comprehension, no competition from me with physics for sure, arithmetic challenging enough!

Astro physics – once past Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot (not far, only 4 billion miles), my mind pretty much explodes. Other than to say, “we know God ain’t hanging around out there.”

Writing Congress – I do all the time, “not him again”!

I think we’re going to make it beyond 24. Getting Trump put away will help the Republicans get back to reality. Right now they’re stuck in the Jim Jones cult! Openly challenging their Dear Leader pretty much ends their Congressional grift tour.

    All the best!
