In 2023, MRFF, acting on a complaint from an initial group of 17 alumni, midshipmen, faculty, and staff at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, a number that nearly doubled, succeeded in getting an enormous painting of Jesus moved from the Academy’s administrative building to its chapel.
A few weeks ago, Trump’s new secretary of transportation, former reality TV star Sean Duffy, visited the Academy, and speaking to a group of Academy midshipmen, whipped them into a frenzy of Christian nationalistic approval when he asked “Can we bring Jesus up from the basement?”
Now the former reality TV star is milking the viral video of his Jesus painting performance for all it’s worth, even exploiting the most solemn Christian holy day, Good Friday, to tweet the video again, this time claiming the painting was moved because of a “complaint from ONE ‘concerned citizen’”
This is a bald-faced lie from the very Christian Sean Duffy, who knows damn well that it was 17 Merchant Marine Academy alumni, midshipmen, faculty, and staff who enlisted MRFF’s help to get the painting moved.
