Thank you to the MRFF for getting me and my buddy out of having to go to my military shift supervisor’s Bible studies held Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings in our shift supervisor’s office. They are not officially “mandatory” but if you don’t go this will be held against you by our supervisor who can jack you up and make life miserable.
I am a junior enlisted sailor in the US Navy. I was raised Christian, non-dominational. My buddy who is also a junior enlisted sailor is Jewish.
We did not know where to go to get help from this but one of the other officers in our unit gave us the number for the MRFF. She said the MRFF helped her 8 years ago in a similar matter.
We both spoke to Mr. Weinstein who immediately contacted naval personnel in our chain of command.
While we are now excused from attending this Bible study it is still going on and I know for a fact that other sailors don’t want to attend but feel they have no choice. We have advised them to contact the MRFF as well.
The MRFF is also helping us all file an IG and maybe also an EEO complaint but we don’t expect much to happen there. Except maybe revenge against us but we will call the MRFF for help if that happens.
Thank you to the MRFF for getting us out of this and being there to take our phone call in the late evening hours.

This sailor should be ashamed of himself
I’m glad the MRFF and by extension Mikey was able to assist the two service people. It is telling that the shift supervisor feels comfortable enough in their breaking of Constitutional law that the Christian holy book studies continue. I hope the IG investigation gets traction but with the leadership currently in power I’m not holding my breath that the Constitution will be followed.
Where is the unity our fascist supporting trolls tell us will happen if everyone would just ‘bend the knee’?
History taught me when the positions are reversed, these ‘gotta get Christianity’ at all costs advocates aren’t as supportive of ‘All must believe’ when their faith isn’t the one doing the forcing.
Maybe because I’m neuro divergent, maybe because I ooze empathy but I’ve yet to see one faith for all people work for all people. Every time I hear about or read examples of those who try all I see is a human demanding everyone wear a size 9 brown shoe even if their feets aren’t a size 9. Some folks will be delighted but most will find the ill fitting footwear to be an impediment to their daily existence.
As I see it religion is a lot like sex (not gender which is a different metric) meaning the act is personal and relevant only to the person or persons performing the act. Perhaps it’s time both activities are removed from the public square and returned to where they belong, in private*.
*there is a difference between private and secret. As an abuse survivor the word secret means to me something which must remain hidden, something others must not find out, usually to the detriment of the one forced into ‘this will be our little secret’. Private means activities not meant for public consumption. It means healthy boundaries and consent. There is no shame to private as there is with secret. At least that’s been my experience. Your mileage may vary.
If Old Soldier was still in the military and his supervisor had Koran studies 3 days a week, and it was known that people who didn’t attend would be treated differently than those who do attend, should Old Soldier be ashamed of himself if he complained about that?
