Thank you, MRFF, for defending our freedom— by upholding the separation of church and state. And thank you for honoring all of the soldiers who have died for our freedoms, including separation of church and state. You Are Defending Freedom through your work. The freedom to worship, or not, and to be who you are. Your work is an inspiration, is just, and provides hope for so many of us.

Those soldiers died to boost Trump’s ego, NOT to “defend freedom.” The REAL reason Old Soldier hates MRFF so much is that MRFF fights his, and other theocrats’, desire to unify church and state, but he doesn’t want to say so: instead he verbally attacks MRFF about irrelevant things like “pat[ting] themselves on the back.”

As a retired American Baptist pastor, long-time supporter of religious freedom, and life-long student of proper biblical eschatology (but NOT the popular dispensational and Christian Nationalist perspective), I applaud the efforts of MRFF! I did not know that this agency existed until this story broke. It’s unbelievable that the Trump administration would use a distorted biblical theme to justify his war, at the expense of taxpayers and mostly at the expense of brave uniformed soldiers. Kevin, I’m not freaking out. I’ve been here for the past fifteen years watching as the MRFF has assisted so many military service humans with exactly what everyone is seeing here/now. In fact, considering the magnitude of how absolutely screwed this country is I think I’m handling the circumstances with some aplomb.

Of course the families and friends of military folks are talking – but you won’t find any of them going on the record about the topic. There are still things One. Does. Not. Do. in the military and airing the dirty laundry in public is one of them. And the DOD has no sense of humor when someone is on the record speaking for them. If you want to verify I get it. I like to triangulate my information to ensure I’ve not overshot my target. I check multiple sources, always. That said, anyone who has been battling the Dominionists aka Born Again Christians aka Moral Majority aka Tea Party aka Nationalist Christians aka MAGA knows they declared war upon the USA decades ago. It’s only now that they’ve achieved most of their punch list that many outside the battle arena are noticing.

It’s been a slow creep. LGBTQIA+ rights is where they got into the public square. You can look back at old posts and see the same arguments over and over. Nat-C’s believe it’s their religious freedom right to insist everyone follows their concept of faith versus the rest of us who tell them to pound dirt.

The Johnson Amendment is quite clear that churches are not allowed to make political statements concerning specific candidates. Of course it has no teeth and no one follows up on reported violations so the Nat-C’s have been promoting their mix of religion and politics two or three times a week from the pulpit. That’s how we arrived here/now.

Considering Russel Voight, OPM said on the campaign trail that the USA was entering a “post Constitutional Era” I think I’m rather calm. It’s only the dissolution of the country my late husband fought for, that my immigrant relatives dreamed about, and that absolutely love enough to know that since I know better, I want it to do better too.
