Story of Hegseth Slashing 180 Faiths from DOD Recognized Religions — Broken Yesterday by MRFF Via Military.com — Going Viral [With New Video from Mikey Weinstein]

The military will no longer recognize Atheists, Deists, Druids, Heathens, Humanists, New Age churches, Pagans, Spiritualists, Unitarian Universalists, Wiccans, and scores of other minority belief systems by edict of Secretary of Holy War Hegseth.
MRFF took the story to Military.com acting on behalf of two MRFF clients, one a military chaplain endorser and the other an Iraq War veteran, Wiccan priest, and mental health professional, both of whom spoke to Military.com.
“All it takes is the chaplain to say, ‘Well, I don’t see them on this list. I don’t know how I can help you.Maybe go off the installation and see if you can find anybody who can work with you. Goodbye.’ And that’s it. That’s not the American way.” — Military chaplain endorser and MRFF client, quoted by Military.com
“Having appropriate spiritual care is paramount for their well-being. Stripping these codes, stripping the appropriate care aspects and leaving them identified as ‘other’ puts them at a risk of being re-traumatized or re-abused without it being intentional.
“As a licensed counselor and a chaplain and a priest, that is not something that I can idly stand by without pushing back against.” — Iraq War veteran, Wiccan priest, mental health professional, and MRFF client, quoted by Military.com

waaaaaaahhhhhh!!!
First they strip faiths from the official DOD list. Next is to challenge the tax exempt status of churches that are not Christian. It’s all part of their plan and WeThePeople need to resist as best as we can.
Y’all have heard about the canary in the coal mine? Well, the canary just died.
Jolly Good Ginger is correct. The American people aren’t even close to being angry enough at the dismantling of our laws. Per Jolly our current Boston Tea Party moment has already passed. I don’t know how to get folks more invested in the resistance. Well, not unless more of them who think they are untouchable are actually touched by this regime.
May those who are untouched learn some empathy for their neighbors.
can you also post about the new Religious Accommodation memo. Someone with lots of money needs to sue the DoD for rights violations
Tempting as it is to say, “Blow it out your WindyweinerWeinstein”, I’ll try to stick to the content of your post, Then, I’ll analyze the comment. First, the substance of your post.
. . . .
Now for the analysis. Your post suggests that you believe that MRFF, its clients, and its supporters are simply whining for attention. This simply is not true. Many of us have suffered religious discrimination to one extent or another, largely because chaplains are trained to deal with people of their faith tradition instead of all faith traditions. Chains of command have, to one extent or another, tried to use religion to compel subordinates to comply (at least superficially — military folks are exceptionally good at “malicious compliance”!) with their religious agendas. Such treatment blatantly contradicts the US Constitution, DoD and service instructions, and the UCMJ.
And you have a problem with MRFF standing up for the rights of military members, their families, and civilian employees of DoD?
Once again Mikey is engaging in shameful “fear mongering” Service members belonging to religious groups or worldviews no longer specifically listed by the Department of Defense (as of May 2026) can still see a chaplain and receive support. The reduction in recognized faiths from over 200 to 31 is an administrative change for record-keeping and resource planning, not a restriction on religious freedom or access to care. I went online and got the real facts. God bless our military and God bless America.
Well, Old Soldier, how about sharing the resources you used to learn what’s actually going on? Give us some links so we can evaluate the information you used to conclude that Mikey is fear mongering.
Unless, of course, you came to the conclusion first, then sought information supporting your conclusion . . . .
I have doubts that he is. As usual, the news pieces show that the folks coming to MRFF for support are, in fact, actually adversely affected by these policy changes. On the other hand, I can relate to the problem because my wife and I had to deal with it. When we were getting ready to marry a long time ago at a Galaxy base far, far away, she took time off from her shop (we were both active duty) and consulted with chaplains at Travis AFB. None of the ones she spoke to would consent to perform the nuptials: neither of us were of their religions. One of them even asked her if she knew that marrying me would consign my soul to Hell! All because my wife-to-be was a Jew and the chaplain assumed that I was Christian.
She finally asked the chief of chaplains — a Catholic Priest — if he’d conduct the ceremony. When asked why she’d come ti him, she laid out the story. To say that he was a bit . . . (what’s the word?) UPSET . . . would be an understatement. He brought all the chaplains together and read ’em the Riot Act! And then he conducted our service.
The Catholic Chaplain acted in good faith. The rest of them acted according to their sect’s doctrines, and the Airmen they were there to serve be damned!
THIS is the kind of de facto restriction upon religious liberty MRFF was created to fight.
I didn’t have any expectations concerning that title, but the more I was astonished. The author did a great job. I spent a few minutes reading and checking the facts. Everything is very clear and understandable. I like posts that fill in your knowledge gaps. This one is of the sort.
