“Previously, when updating my emergency data, atheist was always an option,” the individual, a MRFF client, told Military.com on Saturday. “But it didn’t take long to see that it was purposely excluded.
“So, my initial confusion quickly turned into outrage—not just for myself, but for the other Airmen and Guardians who may have the same belief system as I do, or belief system that isn’t one of the 31 options.”

I looked to see if this was a blip on the radar of social media and haven’t read or heard anything yet. I’ll give it time. After all many of the atrocities committed by the theocrats in our military months ago are just now hitting the interwebz. And I’m sure most folks will miss the context to think “why is this an issue?” Camel’s nose kids, camel’s nose.
I am beyond delighted that Hustler approached Mikey to do that (in)famous interview and even happier that Mikey thought it would be a good idea. From what I’ve gleaned over the past month what one sees is totally dependent on their algorithm. Here’s hoping the increased exposure and interest in all things military and national security bring eyes to the topic who would not have previously been exposed.
Personal note – in a time where there are so many challenges facing not only the military but our fellow citizens our leaders are focused on (checks notes) eliminating religious designations and building an arch nobody wants to be a sniper’s nest and drone port. Yeah, way to honor our valiant dead.
And come on! The tactical use of a sniper’s nest inside the city of DC is for a foreign enemy but rather to take aim at us when we exercise our First Amendment Rights.
I may be an old hippy but the late great true love and old Marine taught me a think or two about strategy and tactics before he shuffled off this mortal coil. WeThePeople will have to pry our country out of the current admins hands (movie reference here: Dark Crystal when the Skeksis emperor is dying but refused to give up their scepter even as they were disintegrating into dust.) Good think the up and coming leaders have a more nuanced and balanced look at how to take our nation back. I’m all for smiting but that is just presuming each issue is a nail and I have a hammer. Fortunately their tool boxes are many and filled will all the latest toys and gadgets.

It’s been said and I’m repeating it our SecDef believes to their core that the only warriors he wants in today’s military are Male, White, Christian (of their own specific blend of hate and theocracy) and heterosexual (that’s straight for the idjits in the crowd who don’t understand science speak).
My late husband taught me that a warrior is a warrior no matter how they look or present themselves. Our SecDef is wasting good, may that error come to bite him in his posterior parts sooner rather than later.

The literal definition of atheism is a-theism, that is holding no belief in a deity. It is not holding no belief system at all. For example, a secular Humanist is an atheist with the set of beliefs held by such Humanists.
Question was what is your religion, not what is your belief system. Big difference. Atheism isn’t a religion. Neither is Secular Humanism.
Neither Secular Humanist nor Atheist made the belief system list but Christianity holds 22 slots with two reserved (1 each) for Non-denomination and Other. Fairly certain the list could expand to add Atheism and Secular Humanist.
But that’s not the point, is it? The point is to get all nonbelievers into one large box where the loyalists can then pick at them until they retire or are made to retire.
How do I know? I both lived through history and read my fair share of it. These tactics aren’t new but as history teaches they are effective if everyone complies in advance.

By the by. The theocrats want us arguing over the definitions because if we are arguing over terms they can sweep in and do what they want however they want to do it.

You’re right Grey One. The bigots want to delegitimize belief systems that don’t fit the narrow definition of religion that requires belief in the supernatural or even belief in a god or gods, and other qualities common to the majority religions in their countries. But that narrow definition is biased, obviously, and there is no rational reason for the government and the military to delegitimize and refuse to recognize belief systems based on broader definitions of religion. Except, of course, for the obvious reason of bias.
Maybe this is a good thing – Hegseth kicking out anyone that doesn’t match his “Sent from central casting” template. I know, I know but hear me out.
Hegseth is reimagining the military in his own theocratic image, pushing out warriors I would totally keep if I were Queen of the Military because this old hippy read stories like Phule’s Company and cut their teeth on the Stainless Steel Rat. These teaching stories along with Sun Tzu taught me an excellent leader doesn’t waste good and Hegseth is all about waste.
So, keeping those excellent minds with loads of talent in an organization which refuses to recognize anything but the square peg which fits into their square holes? I’m just glad many are getting out of the way before they become merely fodder for the cannon. As I’ve learned (the hard way, natch) sometimes you have to take a step back in order to make significant progress forward.
Every day I have to remind myself that we are in a war for our existence. Every day the theocrats take another chunk out of what I thought was firm and permanent. That it was this easy for them to get this far tells me I missed a lot of clues as to how vulnerable our Constitution remains to those who just refuse to follow it.

As a person who is more “out there” than most I believe all our deities were imprinted on the energies which surround us. The human brain is a powerful thing which Quantum Physics is just beginning to explore. Enough humans believe the same thing hard enough and poof! You have a deity. And they don’t just “go away” once humans stop believing in them. They linger like memories. How do I know?
Oh, we are getting into weirdness territory and the reason the Windy one calls me koo-koo for coco puffs. That said, when I went through puberty I started to have insanely vivid dreams where every deity in the existence of humanity came to have tea or a cup of coffee. And they weren’t all lovey dovey. Some were PISSED their followers were gone and demanded I DO something. I was an awkward child and did as any reasonable kid would do, I suppressed it all until I could unpack the experience with the help of therapy. My fellow classmates hated me to begin with I wasn’t about to give them extra ammunition.
I’d claim the label of crazy only there have been others who have shared with me their own experiences which mirror my own. Cool, I’m no longer alone!
What I do know is that I don’t know what I don’t know and beyond that I just live my life one day at a time. Some folks need a deity in their life in order for it to make sense. I’m not about to take that away from them – that would not only be rude but criminal as in I’m imposing my own views on another. I try very hard not to be the bad guy; demanding others believe as I do would totally make me evil so there is that.

Yes, this is a load of dingos’ kidneys. They’re trying to use the need to normalize data to excuse censoring data. Not OK and they need to stop using IT as an excuse. The military can — and has for years — usefully document a wide variety of earth-based, atheist/agnostic/humanist or niche AF (looking at you, Team Jedi) belief sets with fewer than about eight terms and the effect on data processing and maintenance would be almost nil.
