Dear Military Religious Freedom Foundation,

When I am able, I will contribute money. In the meantime, I value what you do and have made my ROTC son very aware of you.

Of course one of his interests is to avoid drawing attention to himself in a way that could hurt his career. But he still expresses outrage at things that are truly outrageous. In my opinion, this makes what you do particularly valuable: you can protest more visibly than he might. Yes, I’m praising you for being a pain in the ass to military command, more of a pain than a single soldier would dare.

Hi (name withheld),

My name is Rick Baker. I’m a long time supporter of MRFF and a former Air Force Officer and rescue pilot having served two combat tours in Vietnam. I say this only to reinforce your admiration for MRFF and Mikey Weinstein and their dedication to the young men and women of our armed forces.

I saw your note and was struck by a couple of things. One was the fact that a young man starting a military career would have to keep attention off himself so as not to attract religious predators who make life hell for those who resist the overbearing and unconstitutional proselytizing undertaken by Dominionist Christian operatives in the ranks.

Secondly, you are correct that Mikey is a pain and we can all be thankful for it. Mikey became a pain when members of his own family were treated as scum and denigrated by elements of the Christian Fundamentalist sect that infested the US Air Force Academy. You see, such
treatment makes Mikey redouble his efforts and those of MRFF to expose the purveyors of illicit religious activity. I can assure you there are a number of formerly powerful military leaders who are now sidelined and licking their wounds once Mikey finished with them.

You can tell your son for all of us here at MRFF that we have his back and we will be with him as we are thousands of other young men and women who are vulnerable to command centered and coercive Christian proselytizing.

Best to you,

Rick Baker
