I began watching ‘The War’ documentary by Ken Burns on Netflix (for the 3rd time I think) and I was incapacitated by tears, compassion, and rage due to the following quote:
“The greatest cataclysm in history grew out of ancient and ordinary human emotions. Anger and arrogance and bigotry, victimhood and the lust for power.”
(quote from Ken Burns’ ‘The War’, Episode 1, ‘A Necessary War’ @ around the 3 minute 30 second mark)
These words struck me like a sledge hammer this time due to my association with MRFF. I had to write you this note when I realized that this quote defines the Christian Dominionist elements you have been battling all these years. Having been born in 1963 and my ‘formative years’ being dominated by cheesy 1970s depictions of WWII, I knew I did not fully comprehend the evil of the Nazi’s. However, I did dream as a kid that I was some ‘bad ass’ (i.e., ‘The Rat Patrol’ series) who would kick ass and take names as far as the Nazi’s were concerned.
The stance you and your family have taken in carrying out the imperative ‘Never Again’ gives me hope every day. Furthermore, as a non-military (and wanna-be bad ass) U.S. citizen, I thank you for the opportunity to kick ass and take names as a volunteer for MRFF
Thank you,
Andy
