I read the article. I can’t believe this Chaplain’s a Marine! He can’t be!
I remember going to Sunday services just to get away from the drill instructors for an hour! Of course, those few wanting to go to Sunday services had to muster in a certain area of the squad bay and put up with drill instructor harassment before getting to go to church. A hundred or so “bends and motherfuckers” were usually the price paid (squat thrusts). I wasn’t religious. I went just to get away for an hour! The harassment was insane but you became numb to it after a time. There we were, all five of us (out of a 90 man platoon), standing at attention in front of the duty hut waiting for the inevitable punishment for wanting to go to church! The drill instructor would say things like, “why do you want to go to church boy? God can’t help you here!” Or, “do you know why little boys have wet dreams? Because God sucks!” And a few other psychological mind games to be endured. True story! Vietnam era and different times but I can’t believe this Chaplain’s a Marine. The real purpose of a chaplain is to make sure troops go to war when called and they don’t bail.
The rest is just peace time BS to keep the Chaplain Corps going until the next war.
How about this chaplain apologize for the inquisitions and all the atrocities committed by the church through the centuries? You know, burning people at the stake for the heresy of reading a Bible? Or daring to question the authority of the Catholic Church? I believe John Calvin even burned a few at the stake. How about Giordano Bruno being burned at the stake for his thought crime of suggesting that the earth moved around the sun rather than the other way around! Before burning, they put them on the rack and tortured them before walking them to the center of the town square where the burning would take place. And they’d muzzle then with crude metal bits in their mouths so they couldn’t speak lest they say something against the church on their way to being burned! We couldn’t have these blasphemers saying anything to the spectators now could we? How about all the little children being buggered by religious leaders in our time! That their Christian God watches without intervention to feed his heavenly sick fetish!
The Chaplain Corps should be disbanded in favor of properly trained social workers and therapists that do their jobs without the BS prostelitization and politicalization.
