Article VI, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution couldn’t be more clear:

“… no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

But now the U.S. Navy has come up with a new regulation that couldn’t violate this “no religious test” clause more if the Navy had sat down and said, ‘Hey, let’s try as hard as we can to come up with something that totally violates the Constitution.’

Outstanding work, MRFF. Thank you for informing DoD in no uncertain terms that the Navy must rescind the regulation OPNAVINST 1730.1F (effective November 2022). It is outrageous and incorrect to characterize “spiritual readiness” as this regulation does.

So glad to see you are on top of this at MRFF. Thank you for your vigilance and timely action in opposing it. I just sent you an email about it and then saw your above post on the subject. Please keep us posted on the status.

This is wrong. The Navy needs men and women who have faith. That’s what makes for a great nation. God bless those who love and trust in Him.

I’m with Nancy Johnston. You people at MMRF should find another way for your 15 minutes of fame. In my 30 years I preferred those leaders with belief and values over those arrogant haters and non believers. God bless our leaders and guide them in their missions.

Addressing Jim F.’S comment: “men and women who have faith” (actually that quote is from Namcy J.’s comment, but it sets the stage for JF’s commentary.) Jim says, “I preferred those leaders with belief and values,” implying as we have seen countless times on these pages that anyone who isn’t christian has no beliefs and values. Those folks with “beliefs and values” allow many of those folks to rent large venues in their brains for extended periods of time, even though JF considers them (us) to be “arrogant haters–” odd though that may appear. The only “arrogant haters” I have observed in the past decade or two are christian. And it’s not as though I am hunting and interviewing creatures that I suspect are arrogant and/or haters. The bushes are full of them! “God bless….” which god would that be, sir? Jehovah, Sophia, Zeus, Hera, Baphomet, Mohammed’s informer, Prince Krishna, the Buddha–do you need a larger pantheon?? Quite frankly, I have no interest nor investment in your divine preference. There are nearly as many belief systems (BS) on the planet as there are humans to practice, and while you are at liberty to choose and follow the BS of your choice, you do not have the license to force the rest of us to conform to what we see as instability. Good day to you sir.

As a part of a longer email one of the officers represented by MRFF on this issue recently wrote the following:

“Why did we ask for this help from the MRFF? Because trying to bring such complaints internally up through our Navy chain off command would simply be instant career suicide. I understand how that makes me and others look to the outside world but it is just the way it is. Rest assured that I and the others here feel the self-loathing which we deserve.”

Sir or Ma’am, about this self-loathing: That you spoke out in a way that protects your anonymity is fine. Really. Fact: You did not stand by and do nothing. This stands in contrast to your many naval brothers and sisters who sat on their hands. Worse many support this new Navy regulation.

Sir or Ma’am, What you have done is huge. Thank you for supporting and defending the Constitution. Thank you for leading.
