Dear MRFF:

I fully support your efforts to counter the forces trying to turn our country into a fascist theocracy. Throughout history such efforts have been wrapped in the cloak of religion. Today these Christian Nationalist are becoming dangerously close to achieving their aims. Financed by select billionaires they have infiltrated our courts, government officials, law enforcement, and our military.

I was a conscientious objector in 1970 and never was in the military. That was for religious and moral principles. I have a great appreciation for those that do serve, especially at the front lines.

Thank you all for your ongoing resistance to those that have no real understanding of the dangers of a fascist theocracy. Without your efforts I fear those who abuse their rank and power would lead us down a very dangerous path. They would if they could.

Regards,

Religion…….can’t start a war without it!

Wednesday nights were movie nights in the Commander’s conference room on my last trip to Iraq. During intermission, one of the senior officers struck up a conversation about God going on to say that the Iraqis prayed to the wrong God. “How many Gods are there?” I questioned, most of the military in the room quietly listening, afraid to engage this senior leader.

Being a deployed civilian, what were they going to do to me? Send me to Iraq? I was already there!

His answer was “there’s only one true God.”

    “Prove it,” I countered.

If looks could kill…. I’d just questioned a senior leader in front of his folks, self inflicted embarrassment on this leader’s part. He struck up another conversation with one of his junior officers and then quietly left the room when the movie started. It was too bad actually. He missed a good movie!

The point being that no one has impunity from verbal prosecution for initiation of religious conversation.

I lived in Iran during the last Islamic revolution. Muslims are pretty fanatical about their religion but they never tried to push it on me, unlike Christians in America. I did get a couple threats after Marshall law was imposed from Iranians I worked with but never took them seriously. Iranians, btw, are wonderful people!!! Their theocratic Government is pretty fucked up (religion) but they chose it, mistakenly, after getting rid of the puppet we installed (Shah Mohamed Reza Pahlavi). Ask anyone that knows to tell you about the Savak and you’ll have the people’s anger summed up. The same anger that brought about the return of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

    I digress.

It’s what you’re going to get with Trumpian autocracy right here at home!

In other words, Goldilocks and the Three Bears has the same truth value as religion – any religion!

you can believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden, but you’re not going to push your beliefs on me! Nor are you going to sanction it in any way in the public schools! Not without a fight!

Christians, in particular, overwhelmingly have this innate compulsion to share their delusions, in the public square, with whomever they can get to listen. They expect to get a pass for sharing their magical thinking but they have to be challenged.

The cure is to counter their arguments. Always! Keep church and State separated!

I don’t initiate religious discussion but I don’t shy away from it if someone decides to go there.

It’s impossible to sustain an American war without religion – it provides the moral certitude for fictional thinkers (Christians).

The MRFF is fighting “the good fight!”
