Below is a message received on my official .mil email account. I believe this is the second notice of a Christian prayer service in the last few months, always a Christian service with a large cross image across the top of the email.

While I receive a large volume of stupid and inconsequential emails – I don’t usually receive them from the office of the secretary, and I have never received one for a routinely occurring Islamic prayer service, Jewish service, or nondenominational gathering of spiritual pals (of any other sort).

As a not religious person, I am fine standing through an invocation, and I get along great with my unit chaplains. I recognize the role of religion and spirituality in military service. As a member of the Medical Corps – the Chaplains have been around just about as long as we have, but seeing this email, again – was honestly just a WTF moment.

I want to reply with a classic “Take me off this distro.” I am not an important power player, I don’t work at the Pentagon – so If I am receiving this email – that means they are mass blasting everyone in the military about it. Again, just w. t. f.

There is no one to reach out to – and while part of me waits for the merciful firing, to be released from my ADSO and told my services are no longer welcome here, until then I really just want to make a fuss about this because its not right. No one will stand up to this- because they are worried about their own careers – some even their own wellbeing because of how toxic it is.

Just wanted to put it on someone’s radar to add to body of evidence.

The Secretary of War invites you to join him this Wednesday, March 18th, in the Pentagon Auditorium (BH650) at 1200 for a Christian prayer and worship service.

This is an optional service that is open to all Department staff stationed at, or with access to, the Pentagon – due to seat limitations, no visitors or external guests will be accommodated.

Seating will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Seat reservations can be confirmed for GO/FO and Senior Leaders only by RSVP to [email protected]
