Dear Mikey

It’s been a while since I e-mailed you. I’ve been trying to read the latest collection of vitriol spawned by the Maj. Gen. Olson activities. I understood the first time that military personnel cannot appear in uniform at privately organized and funded religious events. As I understand the issue, Maj. Gen. Olson chose to appear at an event organized by the National Day of Prayer Task Force, which was created by Mrs. Shirley Dobson of Focus on the Family in uniform and gave a 22-minute speech about his Christian religion, in direct violation of Air Force policy.

I’m not a lawyer, I’ve never served in uniform, but even I (with my limited understanding of JAG matters) have caught on to how serious the circumstances are that Maj. Gen. Olson has put himself in. This is not about religious freedom. This is about living out the oath he took when he joined the Air Force. If he continues in his obstinate behavior, then he does deserve to face court-martial. I don’t understand how many of MRFFs detractors just don’t get it.
