Dear (name withheld) –

 

Mr. Weinstein asked me to respond to your April 20, 2016 email to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (“MRFF”).

 

We at MRFF work tirelessly to protect the religious freedom of all soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, cadets, and veterans.  We have over 45,600 clients who rely on us to ensure that, while they serve our great country, they are permitted to practice their chosen religion or no religion at all.  They further rely on us to protect them from unconstitutional religious proselytization, coercion, discrimination, and persecution.

 

These brave men and women in uniform make so many sacrifices to defend our rights, including the right of religious freedom.  We are honored to do everything in our power to make sure they have the same rights they protect.  We protect our protectors.

 

You call this being the “asshole of America.”  It is your right to call us that.  As for how it feels – it feels absolutely incredible!

Dear (name withheld),
Mikey shared your message (below) with me last week, and asked if I’d like to respond.  Wasn’t planning to, but here I am on a flight from Portland to Philadelphia, with not much to do at 35,000 feet, so I’m going to reply after all.
I think you’re asking the wrong question.
The real question to ask Mikey Weinstein is, “How does it feel… to be… demonized, threatened, lied about, condemned, misrepresented in the conservative media, and many worse things… all because you feel strongly that the liberties and freedoms promised by the US Constitution should be available to all Americans, and particularly all US military members, regardless of their personal beliefs (including non-belief)?”
I’d wager that Mikey’s answer to that question would be, “It pretty much sucks.”  But I know that he would also say that the irrational hatred and  the threats to his own security and that of his family do not dissuade him from continuing to fight the good fight.
And from my own perspective, every time I read another missive from someone who claims to be a fellow Christian but who spews the most un-Christian bile imaginable, my own resolve to continue fighting alongside Mikey is only strengthened… as is the case with every other supporter of the MRFF.
You and your ilk may be loud, rude, and aggressive — but you are still on the wrong side of the Constitution.

    “Blesses be,”–who is this phrase referring to? Mike? MRFF? Ideas it supports? Also, these name calling emails, are these a set up from within MRFF, or do all of them actually come from individuals who do not support it? Public has only the yes or no of MRFF and is open to possibility that some of them are actually from MRFF itself to create compassion in unsuspecting public.
