All,

It has come to my attention that the military is making special allowances for a Sikh officer to wear a beard a turban as part of his religious proselytizing (http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/04/us/sikh-army-captain-simratpal-singh-beard-turban/).  As a uniform military force, this is unacceptable as it clearly shows favoritism and the promotion of one religious group over any other.  This is as bad as having Christians wear their crosses in the open, allowing Muslims to also wear beards, etc… As an American fighting force we are expected to be uniform without prejudice.  I hope this foundation stands by its principals and puts an immediate campaign together to get this stopped.

nope…not at all……the regs say the commanders can make such an accommodation if doing so will not deleteriously affect good order, morale and discipline….in these cases, the courts will properly defer to the military commanders, sport!!…have a great day!!…Mikey W.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply.  I disagree, as i would have a problem with crosses on uniforms or any other outward symbology of religion especially when it is endorsed by the US military.  So, if this were a “cross” or “moon and star patch” as part of a religious obligation your organization would be ok with commanders endorsing it?   Just wondering what the delineation is between the law and religious obligation.

massive deference given to commanders by the law…..case-by-case basis…we had an atheist commander who had an anti-Christian bumper sticker…..we handled the complaint of his Christian subordinates…and won it for them….
