It may not change anything but I wanted to express my sorrow to Mr. Weinstein about all this. I cannot apologize for man’s sinful and thoughtless unkindness to what should be the brotherhood of mankind, but I can and will pray against it.
My God continue to honor your work and keep you safe.

Dear Joan,
How about all the other things Jesus taught us like to go make disciples in all the nations, are you obeying that command. Are you praying for Mikey’s salvation because Jews will not get a free pass into heaven just because they are Jews, they need to accept Jesus as their Messiah just like every Gentile does.
Yeah JR., and people throw away the Ten Commandments every chance they get.
Gee, JR, I thought that the Jews were God’s Chosen people so why do they need to get a free pass into heaven?
Who says they get a free pass into heaven, no one, not even you gets a free pass into heaven. We all need to accept the blood of Christ as His sacrifice for our sins and accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and have a personal relationship with Him.
People throw away the 10 commandants because we are all sinners, it is our nature to rebel against God, that is why we need His help and strength to stay away from sin and not yield to it.
They are God’s chosen people so I guess they do get a free pass into heaven.
“We all need to accept the blood of Christ as His sacrifice for our sins and accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and have a personal relationship with Him.”
Tell that to the Buddhist, Muslims, Hindus, and other groups that are not Christians.
People sin because God made two mistakes: 1) creating the human race and 2) giving people free will. That was pretty stupid of him.

I don’t know if you’re a man or a woman, a Christian or not (I don’t care). I’m a devout (but liberal) Roman Catholic. I was taught never to accept JR’s brand of abusive religious BS and never to hose anyone with it. My favorite spiritual touchstones are Gandhi, Dalai Lama XIV, Thich Nhat Hahn, Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Rachel Carson, Pope Francis, and — Christopher Hitchens.
D’ya think that list will choke JR? I kinda hope so. I LOVE every time you snark back at JR. You have my sense of the absurd.
Thank you, Angela
Angela,
Everything I said above you will find in the New Testament, the same one that you read, if you read the bible at all, but since you are a Roman Catholic I doubt you do, since the priests tell their subjects we can interpret everything for you!
Everyone of those people you mentioned above will suffer eternally in hell unless they have received Christ as their Lord and Savior, and that is the gospel of Christ as preached in the New Testament and by His disciples. There is only one way to heaven and that is only through Jesus by His own very words spoken 2000 years ago!
As a liberal Roman Catholic, does that mean you can have sex outside of marriage or have extra marital affairs, take birth control so you do not get pregnant or have homosexual lovers, or get divorced. Maybe I should speak to your priest and nothing a priest says will absolve you of your sins.
It has been stated more eloquently in other places but as I understand Christianity the message Jesus taught was to love our fellow humans. In fact as I remember, the message went beyond Love to understanding others by walking not just one but two miles in a strangers shoes. As I read Christ’s words I saw He wanted each person to find their own path to Enlightenment rather than slide down the Dominionist ‘one size fits all’ spiritual super highway.
According to JR it is not enough for a person to identify as Christian (looking at the myriad attacks on Pastor Joan for being the ‘wrong’ sort of Christian). In JR’s eyes*, in order to enter the Kool Kristian Klub one must hate the correct sorts of folks; meaning anyone who has, might, or will threaten the current power structure. The Pharisees, Dominionists, and now JR are so afraid of anyone not looking, believing, or breathing exactly like themselves that they’ve totally rewritten the message of their supposed Lord and Savior.
Learn to share. Love one another. That is the message of Jesus. Why is it that the simplest of instructions are so hard to follow?
*How does it feel Joshua to have someone tell you what you think or believe? I do this because you’ve done it so many times to others I figured you must want it done to you. This would be why I practice For the Good of All and May it Harm None and not the Golden Rule.
JR, you have priests of various Christians denominations telling their subjects how they interpret the Bible; otherwise, you would not have so many different Christian demoninations.
G – those weren’t True Christians – trademark pending. You know only those who breathe dress eat poop believe vote and practice their faith exactly like JR will be found at their idea of Heavens door.
Per my reading Pastor Joan’s responses the First Amendment says what no other country ever said before. Every citizen is allowed to worship or not as they feel is correct for themselves. This means my right to practice my faith’s requirement to punch pushy proselytizers in the snoot cancels out the pushy citizens right to proselytize without consent. I can’t punch the citizen and if I don’t give consent, the citizen may not proselytize to me.
Honestly, where is the shame in JR. They slam Pastor Joan all the time and in this comment section JR questions Angela’s dedication to her faith. Does JR not recognize Deity when It stares them in the face?
The founding fathers practiced the ideas of Jesus even if they didn’t proclaim him to be their lord and savior. If I remember correctly Jesus wasn’t all that big on adoration so I believe he would have approved of who we are now – doing our best to practice love even with those who refuse to learn to share..
Angela – thank you for your list of influences. I found a few names I didn’t know. What a fantastic gift. Hope your summer is all you need it to be. :)
G – I forgot to add the snark signage. My apologies. And I neglected to wish you a good summer too. Concussion in January is still being felt today. Not an excuse but seriously an explanation. Very scattered. I look forward to the fall. Hope it’s cooler.
