Keep up the Good Fight

Dear Mikey:
I must commend you immensely, Mikey Weinstein, for all the work you have done and the sacrifice it requires toward ridding our military of the infiltration by the irreligious fanatics of the Religious Right. I am 80 years old. I was drafted during the Korean “Police Action.” I served my required two years. I was a very devout Catholic then. My studies for the priesthood had been interrupted. I never witnessed anything like the “fucking” pseudo-religious trash you are fighting today. Such fanatics weren’t in vogue then. I metamorphosed into a non-theist about fifty years ago. I taught school for 35 years, the first five in Catholic schools. That’s where the behavior of nuns and priests like what I had experienced in my own parochial school years was revisited and forced me to question vital aspects of theology that eventually caused me to sprout wings and fly to freedom. I have been a serious student of history all my life, including religious history. The Religious Right in this country today is just as hypocritical and vicious-minded as any religious organization in history. Only groups like your Military Religious Freedom Foundation, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the American Civil Liberties Union prevent them from actualizing worse violations against the free and secular democracy upon which this nation was truly founded and which it is supposed to be defending in the name of our Constitution. As you know, politicians neglect that responsibility too conveniently, and so “We, the People” must continue the Revolution to regain and maintain the only haven that is safe for both democracy and religion, complete separation of church and state. Keep up the “fucking” good fight!
