Earnest Commendation of MRFF’s Steadfast Defense of Religious Minorities, Secular Values in the US Military

Gentlemen:

Enclosed with this letter is a 200-dollar money order for MRFF. I support MRFF in its campaign to defend the religious freedom of all U.S. servicemen. By doing so, MRFF defends the freedom of all Americans. I fully commend MRFF for standing up for the principles of our constitutional republic, and one of these principles is that the government shall not endorse one religion against other religions. I say this as a dedicated (and Very Liberal) Christian.

I greatly admire Mike Weinstein, a courageous fighter on behalf of religious freedom for all U.S. citizens. He is precisely the kind of person that we need in this battle: he knows the law, and he has the moral and personal courage to defend what he knows to be morally and legally right. He has impeccable credentials: a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, and a military lawyer in the Reagan administration. He has spread the alarm about the anti-Semitism tolerated and even encouraged by the Religious Right in the U.S. military, but he has taken into account the rights of all those, including Christians, whose rights are being abrogated by fundamentalists. He has also stood manfully against the homosexual-bashing and the Islam-bashing orchestrated by the propagandists of the Religious Right. What a magnificent man, a hero to those who love liberty.

I am a dedicated Christian, and I believe that the Religious Right represents a grave and present danger to our constitutional republic and the freedoms that we have enjoyed. On the one hand are the dispensationalists, who want to foment war in the Middle East to hasten the end of the world. On the other hand are the dominionists, who want to replace our secular constitutional republic with a theocratic dictatorship. While these two groups have different viewpoints, they both represent a danger to American principles and democratic government.

I am heartened that MRFF has been nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize. It would be wonderful if the Nobel committee awarded the 2011 Peace Prize to your worthy organization.

Once again, kudos to MRFF and to Mike Weinstein. Keep up the good work to defend our constitutional freedoms. Fight the Christian fundamentalists. And remember: Courage!!!!
