Mikey,
Please do not use any identifying labels for me as I am completely terrified of what may happen to me if discovered. I know you completely understand the situation here at the Academy however many out there do not understand what kind of environment in which we live. This email could come from a cadet, a professor, any civilian working in the area, or a visitor walking in the cadet area.
We are all very well aware of what has transpired in the last few weeks. The Chief of Staff of the Air Force sent out a memo which was supposed to go to everyone in the Air Force, describing religious neutrality. I would bet that most of us do not really care about what we believe in our personal time. When it comes into the workplace it should put up red flags everywhere. Apparently some of the evangelical types around here saw your billboard and continuous requests for the Academy leadership to distribute the memo as a threat. After we started hearing more about MRFF and what the Academy leadership had failed to do at the Academy some interesting things started to happen in the cadet area.
Fliers started to go up advertising religious briefings in Fairchild Hall, which is the academic building at the Academy. The funny thing is that the fliers stated it was sponsored by the Office of the Cadet Chaplains. Why is it that the briefings are held in the academic building and not in their facilities? Doesn’t the Academy have any place to accommodate these types of religious briefings? Maybe the chapel or their meeting areas?
In the past few weeks there have been at least two of these religious briefings sponsored by the Chaplains office.
Some of us around here see this as a very deceptive way to sneak religion into the academic area and push back against the Chief of Staff memo and MRFF’s continuing call for religious neutrality. I’m okay with the beliefs of my co-workers, but it’s downright ridiculous to see this type of environment here.
So by writing disclaimers on the paper stating it’s sponsored by the Cadet Chaplains and doesn’t endorse religion, it’s okay to write that they’re going to share the love of Jesus Christ? And it’s sponsored by the Cadet Chaplains but it’s going to the Christian Faculty Fellowship?
All this in the academic building instead of the religious accommodations provided in the chapel?
Help us end the insanity around here. For them it seems like a war has begun anew. These fliers are popping up all over the place now.
