American United makes me laugh, they have no idea of what real religious persecution is!! I guess they have not been reading much of the news coming out of the Middle East. Let’s see, over 10 Egyptian Christians were beheaded on a beach in Libya by ISIS, oh, there were those 12 Syrian Christians who were beheaded by ISIS this last week along with a 12 year old Christian girl who was also beheaded because she refused to deny Christ and convert to Islam, and then there was that massacre in Africa by Boko Haram who came into a Christian school and made the students watch as they set on fire their teachers and may children were slaughtered as well. A Hindu woman alledgedly being fired because of being a witch, is not religious persecution,

YM, I think that American United knows what real religious persecution is because they know about the Holocaust. You seem not to remember that part of history. Christians being persecute? I recalled the Fourth Crusade to the Holy Land, where the Western Christians slaughter the Eastern Christians of Constantinople in 1204 and set up their own empire. You also had the various religious wars in Europe between the various rising new Christian Protestant churches and the Roman Catholic Church. You forgot that part as well.

The Crusades happened, as G notes, in the 13th Century. May I humbly suggest that it may be time to “let it go”?

    G,

I am fully aware of the Holocaust and have been studying it for a couple years. One of the worst religious persecutions of mankind, but perpetrated by non-believers. The Crusades were done by “professing” Christians but had no personal relationship with Jesus.

The Holocaust was committed by both non-believers and believers of God. When you have six million Christians being slaughter by a regime in a systematic, factory assembly like way, then come back and tell us about Christians being persecuted considering the fact that Christians were persecuting in each during the various religious wars in Europe.

“The Crusades were done by “professing” Christians but had no personal relationship with Jesus.”

That statement is of no help to the people who got slaughter at Constantinople and I bet you that many of those Christians did have a personal relationship with Christ and had justified the slaughter by saying that God told them to do so and it was God’s will.

    G,

I hope you are not referring to the Reich Church during WWII in Germany. The Reich Germany was Christian in name only, and what about the Catholic church at that time well, they turned their backs on the Jews all together just like they are today. The Catholic Church as been anti-Semitic for hundreds of years, and no Catholics are not Christians but in name only. Because the Reich Church sold their sole to the devil (Hitler) that is why Dietrich Bonhoeffer started the Confessing Church.

I will agree that some born again Christians have done hideous things in the name of Christ, but purely because they have mis-interpreted and mis-applied scripture. Their may have been some truly born again Christians who were part of the Reich Church, but out of ignorance of what the scriptures said. At the same time there were hundreds of born again believers who were hiding Jews during the war and some were caught and suffered the consequences by the Nazis, like the Ten Boom family in Holland.

I was personal friends with a German couple at a church I was an associate pastor at more than 20 years ago. The couple came here to the US after the war, and during the war the husband was in the German army but he and his wife were committed Christians. They told me that at first they did not know why the Jews were being rounded up, but when they found out why, they said that Germany was finished! The husband later became a POW in a Russian prisoner of war camp. They loved the Jewish people and knew that they were God’s chosen people.

Yes YM, I am referring to both the various religious Christian churches in Nazi Germany since they help kill the Jews and their fellow Christians.

Protestants and other various Christian churches have been anti-Jewish just as long as the Catholic Church.

“I will agree that some born again Christians have done hideous things in the name of Christ, but purely because they have mis-interpreted and mis-applied scripture. Their may have been some truly born again Christians who were part of the Reich Church, but out of ignorance of what the scriptures said.”

Those “some” Christians could have not carry out those evil deeds without help from the rest of the Christian majority since the Christian majority were manipulated by various means including religious ones to brainwash them into carrying out acts of organized killing programs.

“I will agree that some born again Christians have done hideous things in the name of Christ, but purely because they have mis-interpreted and mis-applied scripture.

Nowadays, you have religious, business, and political leaders deliberately misinterpreting and misapplying the scriptures in order to carry out their own political, social, and economic agenda and telling the people that what is said in the Bible is the God’s honest truth and the people have no right to question the scriptures and question the political, religious, and business leaders about what they say about the Bible.

And so many are so ignorant of the many and various languages and translations of the Bible, which says and means what those at the top of the power structure want it to say and mean at any particular time.
With as many versions of the bible as there are, it’s a wonder the members of one church can talk to the members of another. And too many of all bible brands/versions need to read the Xtian NT, instead of the Jewish OT. The what we can be and how we could behave, rather than the what we are and how we do behave.
Jesus’s offered a new covenant, and too many people just love the old angry ways too much to accept the new.
Better to be an atheist and know that we are no more than grains of sand in the big universe, than to be hateful and spiteful and credit God with our vile meanness of spirit.
