Taking on the Marines, really. Since when did the other religions not worship God. “God Bless” has no specific religious affiliation. That would make this all about atheism.
I hear that Mikey called the Marine Col a coward, Mikey you should know better that will get you a boot in the face!! Be careful a Marine may just throw you down and but his/her boot on your neck until you say Uncle!
Semper Fi
I love the marines! Love them, love them, love them. And I’m glad that they are proud to keep the signs as is. If you jerks at MRFF have such evil intents, I’d examine your hearts (if you have a heart that is) and ask yourselves why the oath that clearly states the same God that is the God beings asked to Bless troops is just a dang issue for you all. Constitution was ordained for the blessings of liberties, not cursings of liberties. And well, guess i’ll add my name to the list of proud soldiers who took oath as legally written; SO HELP ME GOD!
Poor John Bergeron. Never taught freedom of religion and does not understand or support it.
YW—-Maybe a real one MIGHT TRY. Fake ones like you are a dime a dozen.
How about proving your Invisible Sky Fairy is anything more than a figment of your imagination Jake? Then you might want to start supporting our constitution.
Where did Weinstein call the colonel a coward? Any marine that assaults Mr. Weinstein will get court-martial and send to Plymouth and you know that YM.
Gentlemen of MRFF,
Surely you are aware of historical periods through the 16th century were governments forced its citizens to believe in a particular religion, even to the consequence of death. The First Amendment was put in place, at least in part, to restrict the US Government from created a National religion and restrict the US Government from interfering with its Citizens in the practice of their religion. Said another way – the Amendment protects Citizens by allowing us to practice our religion without Government interference.
Allow me to shorten it further – The First Amendment restricts US Government and protects Citizens!
The way I see your position playing out is to restrict the Citizens and protect the Government. Is that really your intent?
*** century WHERE governments***
@ Kurt Van Tassel
My belief in an invisible sky fairy, by any name, does not keep you from your atheistic beliefs. And your atheism does not keep me from mine. So why the fuse? Assuming of course neither of our beliefs call for the killing or maiming of the other.
Furthermore, our US Government does not prohibit either of us from practicing those beliefs and is the exact purpose of the First Amendment.
The holy book of Christians has pretty clear language of how to deal with those of different beliefs. As my moms pastor prefaces his teaching of scripture – these are the stories that have defined us. We now have to interpret the message for modern times. People like YW believe their book is all true – black or white. No grey allowed. In his world people like me need to convert or die.
People like YW also believe (as revealed by their own words) that the bible trumps the constitution in matters of government.
Horse poop!
Leave the sign. But then everyone else’s faith or lack thereof needs to be acknowledged too. Fair is fair – so says the constitution and bill of rights. A bamzillion signs or none. Why are we even still debating the issue?
A strict separationist view is not supported by the Constitution, since it would contradict other parts of the First Amendment, e.g., it would be at war with the protection of the “free exercise” of religion.
“Separation of church and state” appears NOWHERE in the Constitution.
Defend the Constitution as per the oath, not an agenda.
Kurt, I think you see it as Freedom from Religion. I know the difference and it is clear in the constitution I defend….The First Amendment does NOT demand a wall of separation between church and state….In fact, the Establishment Clause affirmatively mandates accommodation, not merely tolerance, of all religions, and forbids hostility toward any….I see lots of hostility here on this site toward all.
God Bless our Marines!
Phillip and John,
So you support the Satanists, Atheists, and the rest of the signs? Super! I knew we could count on you doing the right thing! ///////////////////////
