MRFF Demands Army Post Commander Remedy Unfair Treatment of Soldiers with Religious Dietary Restrictions After Complaint from Chaplain
An Army Chaplain at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood), Texas, has enlisted MRFF’s help to get the post’s Finance Office to stop denying soldiers with religious dietary restrictions who must buy their own food exemptions from having the Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) deducted from their pay. The refusal to grant these exemptions is unfairly forcing soldiers of minority religions who require kosher, halal, or vegetarian meals to pay twice for their food — having their BAS automatically deducted from their pay to pay for meals in dining facilities that they can’t and don’t eat and then having to pay out of their own pockets for food that they can eat.
In their e-mail requesting MRFF’s help for the soldiers at Fort Cavazos, the chaplain also informed Mikey Weinstein that MRFF is a subject covered in Army chaplain school, writing:
“When I transitioned to chaplain, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation was a topic covered in a couple of our classes. In every instance, the instructors depicted the Military Religious Freedom Foundation as a boogie man to be feared as they could potentially end your career if you attracted their attention. A few years ago, I made the choice to research Mr. Mikey Weinstein and found out what his motivation was and why he is passionate about this. After reading his biography, some quotes attributed to him, and reviewing recent actions of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation; I changed my opinion of both him and the Foundation. I personally came to the conclusion that the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is not anti-religion, but focused on protecting the Title 10 rights of military service members. To include myself.”

Damn, my dietary restrictions are grass fed beef, fresh free range eggs and whole milk. Who’s paying for that?
Neither Oops nor Captain Irvin Deihl have any understanding of the issue at hand. Well, I don’t expect Oops to understand anything, they’ve already proved to be less intelligent that your average bar of lead.
That said, Captain Irvin made their demand but neglected to provide any evidence as to where their religious texts back their listed dietary requirements. Almost as if they aren’t really serious. (I know, right???)
Neither commentator gives a flying sack o’ crap of the unfairness borne by unmarried service personnel who are only trying to both serve their country and their faith. Shouldn’t such devotion be rewarded? Oh, yeah, not the ‘right’ religion, amirite?
Neither gave any thought as to why the Chaplain writing the letter would want to advocate for an under represented demographic and that for me is the final nail in the metaphoric coffin of these two trolls, may they find richer fields to spill their swill elsewhere.
PS – Captain Irvin, your meals (and salary) are paid for by the citizens of the USA. (Taking you at your word that you serve in the USA military and are not a Captain of the Love Boat, local law enforcement, another countries’ military, or as a pirate – all places where the signifier of captain is appropriate).

Oops wrote “No religious exemptions for the vaccine, no religious exemptions for food.” The military people who claimed religious exemption from the covid vaccine were denied because their objections were obviously motivated by politics and whacko conspiracy theories. There is no religion that forbids taking the covid vaccine.
Religious exemptions from military regulations are approved or not depending on their negative effects on the military’s ability to do its job.
Does Ooops want to claim that spreading a dangerous disease among the troops has no more negative effects on the military’s ability to do its job than not requiring soldiers to pay for food that their religion specifically forbids them to eat?

A double charge for food for military members that have specific dietary needs is prejudicial to the religious freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. The military needs to provide reasonable accommodation, in this case, stopping the BAS deduction from their pay assuming they’re eating in a dining facility that doesn’t accommodate their dietary needs, which they are not!
The underlying current is Christianity, you know, the preferred fraternal order for their coveted Crusader Army.

Even MREs come in menus accommodating religious dietary guidelines – certified. There may not be enough soldiers to prompt a dining facility to accommodate specific meals, although Ft. Hood is a big post with lots of troops; however, these soldiers shouldn’t be charged twice for their meals.
This issues really has a simple fix – stop charging them!

The laws of the USA, beginning with the constitution, expressly say that this is not a nation under God or gods, but rather is a nation in which freedom of conscience is to be sacrosanct. If you don’t like freedom of religion, then please feel free to move to a country without it – such as Saudi Arabia or Iran. Good luck with that.
