“Our military unit supervisor here at (installation name withheld) started off the first mission briefing of the new year by asking for a show of hands as to which attending military members have been ‘saved through the grace and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.’ We all thought YGBSM?”
“(MRFF representative’s name and rank withheld) connected us with Mr. Weinstein almost immediately after this happened. I won’t go into all of the specifics here as to how Mr. Weinstein contacted our chain of command to fix this. But two days later our commander addressed the matter at another … meeting and apologized for what our military unit supervisor had said about asking who had been ‘saved.’”

I find that WTF balloon offensive they have used that before with Jesus saying it. By the way we all need to accept Jesus
I find you offensive old soldier who yeah, we get it, you don’t support the MRFF yet here you are. Again.
No, I don’t have to accept Jesus. Nor does anyone else who chooses not to practice Christianity. Your insistence that we all have to bend our knees reminds me of some group… on the tip of my tongue…. hmm… wait, wait, it will come to me.
Our founding fathers insisted that religion stay in the churches. Those who decided to take over the government – looking at you old fart – were exactly who the founding fathers were thinking about when they wrote the First Amendment the way they did.
Maybe you can do as you’ve told the rest of us to do – leave the USA and find a nation who would be willing to take you. Now that the current admin has spoiled the well so to speak I’m not sure where you can go. Well, Russia is still Christian. Perhaps you can move there? As for me? I’m a pagan through and through and you’ll have to kill me because I’ll never convert. And as an American who studied all of history I’m sure my evasive tactics are more than equal to your authoritarian ways.
Regarding the article – it would have been better for the person who called for the show of hands to make the apologies but baby steps. Progress is gained through baby steps.
Grey One, I hear ya! I hold a BA in History, a MS in Studies of the Future, and a MA in Sociology. Between my MS and my MA, I got hooked up with a Unitarian Universalist Church. Since then, I’ve come to identify as a solitary, syncretic Unitarian Universalist neo-pagan atheist with Wiccan tendencies. If you want to know what I mean by all that, please feel free to ask: I use a number of those words in non-standard ways!
I learned in the process that religions AREN’T strictly about beliefs: they’re about behaviors among members of a religious community. If it comes down to it, I could mime the behaviors and parrot the speech of White Christian Nationalists, though I’d really rather not: my Jewish wife wouldn’t appreciate it! So as long as it doesn’t come to that, we’re mostly good.
What would be a LOT better though would be if those who want to turn Commander’s Call into an altar call would actually READ the Constitution and the body of law that’s built up around the idea that religions are NOT supposed to rule the people via government and vice versa! That might be a bit of a tall order, though: it would require that folks actually READ the Constitution and make an attempt at understanding that the separation of church and state is there to protect THEM from being forced to practice others’ religions as well!
Old schooler is right. Jesus didn’t say “WTF.” He actually said, “y’all MAGA mother fuckers done fucked up!”
The Christian Government execution, in broad daylight, of Alex Pretti, in front of the whole world, yeah, kind of blows a hole in all that Jesus shit.
I think Trump, Greg Bovino, Tom Homan, Steven Miller, and Kristi Noem ought to change it up a bit. They should bring in a mobile rack where Americans that dare to be “protestants” (although Alex was Catholic), and dare to exercise their 2nd amendment rights, can be stretched out, you know, joints dislodged before getting pepper sprayed and thrown to the ground before pumping 10 rounds into them by two ICBs (formerly ICE), Inglorious Christian Bastards.
But he IS in a better place now. Amirite Christians? Alex and Renee are hanging out now. In a better place?
I believe they’re in a better place and MAGA, being the good Christian’s they are, should think about self deporting! You know, fast forward to the reward, get a jump on it! :-)
