MRFF Swamped with Complaints as MAGA Military Commanders Pressure Service Members to See “Melania” Movie

“… Our unit commander requires active participation from our unit members at what he determines to be official ‘Unit Activity Events’ or UAEs which are supposed to create a bond within our combat unit and its families.”
“Attendance at all of these UAEs is not mandatory but our unit Commander requires attendance at least at 3 of the 4 these each month. He is the person who decides what is a UAE and what is not. Failure to attend the minimum of 3 UAEs per month will be negatively reflected in our fitness eval reports.
“Yesterday he ‘advised’our unit members and their families to join him and his wife and children for a showing of that new documentary called ‘Melania’ at an off base movie theater. He said that seeing the film would satisfy attendance at one of his UAEs. When he said ‘advised’ we know what that meant.”
“Nobody that I know wanted to go except for those that did not want to get jacked up by our unit commander for not attending. He has made it very clear how he feels about anyone who does not support the MAGA agenda …”

Oh, I’m sure unit bonding will occur after watching the documentary Melania. What I’m not sure about is the nature of cohesion is what the unit commander expected or desired. I mean, folks can bond over hating or mocking a thing, correct?
One thing will be sure, it will be good information to have if someone you think is trustworthy shows their true colors by sucking up after watching the film. I’ve read the reviews. Yeah, it’s that bad. Propaganda on steroids is how I read one review. Yikes!
Grey One, I feel certain you understand what “malicious compliance” means — and how well military personnel can carry out “malicious compliance”!
For anyone who’s in the position of being pressured, I suggest using your imagination. Think of ways you can engage in malicious compliance — then GO FOR IT!
I look forward to hearing about the many creative ways folks dream up for complying with commanders’ pressure to do MAGA stuff . . . .
Go, but draw mass inspiration from the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles.
Ask the unit clerk for orders so you can put in travel vouchers for the gas and tickets.
Thanks for this reporting. MRFF provides an essential service to American democracy.
Damn, and all this time I thought a UAE was some kind of a urinary tract infection!
I subscribe to our neighborhood crime watch news feed. The latest report, an apparent burglar broke into a house in our neighborhood. Nothing was taken. They left four tickets to Melania.
I know it’s easier said than done but I’m waiting for one brave military soul to “just say no!”
And realize that every commander has a commander. And be brave enough to take it higher.
Clearly, a commander cannot force anyone to attend a showing of Melania. Yeah, I know, been there and done it. The “system” can target a challenger. But …. and it’s a big but, the best disinfectant for any unruly commander is sunlight. Visibility.
A commander in the military only wants to be visible when it’s career enhancing, NOT when it ties up his boss and his boss’s boss’s time with stupid shit that they shouldn’t be spending time on!
When you make a Comnander’s boss’s boss visible, for shit he doesn’t want to be made visible (career impact stupid shit a juniper commander has caused), then the spotlight, while still wanting to go after the “challenger,” also shines on the cause of the problem – the commander that opened this bag of worms that affects his boss’s career!
It takes big balls but I’ve done it, albeit in different form.
For a made up article 15 for a friend, “we” (our gang of shit house lawyers), advised our friend not to sign the article 15. He filled it out and gave it back unsigned. When the CSM he gave it back to noticed he hadn’t signed it, he reminded him it needed to be signed. Our brother-in-arms politely said, “I’m requesting a special court martial!” And of course, the CSM nearly shit himself.
The article 15 was dropped immediately because – sunlight! Yes, our comrade was, a few months later, transferred to a new duty station, but he went on to excel in his military career.
There are ways. But, granted, it takes big balls. A willingness to stand your ground and do the right thing. Especially against MAGA cretins.
Btw, this troop was single, so he didn’t have a family to think of, the impact, etc. in other words, it’s hard!
Comes down to hard right over easy wrongs, strength of character, and the courage to stand up to it. Not easy for us mere mortals but it can be done.
Or, alternately, a safer approach, call Mr. Weinstein!
What a fucked up military to be a part of at this particular point in time.
I think we’ve already lost the edge. We have an air capability but the ground game? Not so much. Donnie Boy won’t use it anyway. Number 1, he’s a pussy. Number 2, he’s knows it will end him.
What does air capability do for you? Look at Yemen. They still there? Are they still a threat? Look at Iran. Are they still there? Look at Gaza. Palestinians still there? You see a Trump tower anywhere in Gaza?
You know the man baby’s moves already. It’s all for show, nothing else. He directs some air strikes, claims made up victory, and moves on to changing the news cycle. He’s using the “suckers and losers” to pad his own pockets and those of his two cretin sons, Uday and Qusay.
You know our military can’t fight without contractors right? They, our military, do very little organic maintenance anymore. Logistics provided by contractors. Weapon systems rely on contract provided “capability” baked into the contract. Hell, they don’t even feed themselves – all contract provided (using 3rd country nationals). Biggest challenge of our deployed military troops is how not to gain weight while deployed! Housing while deployed? Containerized Housing Units – contract provided.
I’ve deployed many times to Saudi where tactical vehicles, although part of a unit’s MTOE, were parked. The troops use brand new Chevy suburbans, leased. And the weapon system never moved. We had to let a maintenance contract to bring tactical vehicles to 10/20 standard because they had sat for too long without use, millions of dollars for lack of even daily operator checks.
There’s your military budget dollars at work.
If I showed you pictures of serviceable retrograde class IX coming out of Iraq into Kuwait during OIF, you’d be calling your congressman asking what the fuck, over?
Will it change? Only when the sun comes out! And the corruption stops.
All it takes is a few brave souls ready to “do the right thing!” Very hard indeed. Tough time to be in the “politicized” military.
