Mikey Weinstein, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, told USA TODAY on Oct. 1 his organization “condemns in the strongest terms” what he called Hegseth’s “immoral, unethical and unconstitutional actions” that, in his view, violate the First Amendment ban on the government respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

MIKEY WEINSTEIN’S FULL STATEMENT: “The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (mrff.org) condemns in the strongest terms extant in the English language the disgusting, immoral, unethical and unconstitutional actions yet once again of the depraved ‘Secretary of War Crimes’, Pete Hegseth, for literally using the word ‘ESTABLISHMENT’ to create an office that viciously violates the ‘No Establishment’ clause of the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution, as well as the ‘No Religious Test’ manifestly inherent in Clause 3 Article 6 of the body of the Constitution. MRFF will fight the odious stench of Hegeth’s Christian nationalist bigotry, hatred, and prejudice every second of every day and night until the wretched filth of his fundamentalist Christian religious extremism is forever eradicated from the domain of the otherwise honorable United States military.”
