Military Religious Freedom Foundation,
Thank you so much for being hope during this time when so many have felt that they could openly discriminate against others in uniform. I was feeling hopeless after being denied my free speech as an officer who is on active duty because others felt that it could interfere with their individual conscience. I had never spoken publicly and a judgment was passed on what might say. The highest level officer signed off on this decision only demonstrating that all First Amendment rights are in jeopardy. As of now this ruling would permit an officer or higher NCO to limit any service members free speech and rights because it could interfere with their individual conscience. Service members could lose their positions based on another member’s perception. Behind this ruling a service member could hide their discrimination. Imagine if even a single parent was considered a threat to a higher officer’s individual conscience. Thus, my fight is not just religious discrimination. Sadly, all service members have taken an oath to the Constitution but now they do not care that freedom of speech or inalienable rights exist. Thanks to military religious freedom they are in the fight to defend all service members who value their beliefs. They do not want to see service members lose these rights to a majority or even officers in the highest office because they want people to only fall into line with their own beliefs. There are many service members who sincerely practice their faith and want these freedoms. Freedoms even granted to those who believe their particular Christian denomination is the only way to salvation. The speech from the Secretary of War should never have enabled officers to use his words to take away our very rights of religious freedom. It is time to bring this issue forward so that discrimination would have no place in our ranks or country. Thank you for the hope and let us continue to work towards defeating discrimination and making unalienable rights a reality.

Last time I checked, didn’t they “volunteer” for service “away from home?” In other words, doing what they get paid to do? A condition of employment? That they voluntarily signed up for?

I’m thinking that only applies to chaplain’s assistants. They might need a little help with those, “is God really going to protect me” thoughts.
To be more helpful, having a Commander in Chief that didn’t refer to them as “suckers and losers” would be a good start!
Do what you signed up to do, and that in which you’re getting paid to do – your job!

“Happy Thanksgiving” to a deployed warfighter is an extreme insult. Akin to saying, “wish you were here!”

Hey Synergy it is simple human decency to thank and show appreciation to our service people who put their lives on the line and give so much and that is apparently something you don’t have. You obviously never served so shut up.

You do know there were more federal civilians (in military uniform) and contractors deployed in OIF and OEF than military personnel? You ever thank them?
Who did depot level work on main battle tanks in those conflicts? Indian nationals. Who fed the American military? Indians, sri lankans, Bangladeshis. You ever thank them? Who ran housing in Dhahran during Desert Storm (Khobar Towers)? Phillipinos. Who transported supplies and repair parts out of Kuwait into Iraq? Some military, some American contractors (until they left – too dangerous), and many Arabs. I haven’t heard any thanks for them. Who brought retrograde and battle damaged equipment out of Iraq? Arabs. Who did aviation maintenance in those wars? American civilian contractors.
A great many military members do NOT put “their lives on the line” by the nature of their roles, admin, logistics, maintenance, legal, medical, MWR, AAFES, laundry service, mail, barber services, nails, manicure/pedicure (yes, it’s provided in an established theater), uniform alterations, just to name a few. Who runs the gyms? Third country nationals. Who cleans the pools? Third country nationals. You ever thank any of them?
Are those folks working in the Burger Kings and Baskin Robbin’s deployed, putting their lives on the line? How ‘bout the Russian nationals working in the PX? You thank any of them? How ‘bout the Indian nationals working in the burn pits, truly exposed to toxic fumes? Any thanks? Any compensation?
That old platitude of “putting their lives on the line” is more than a little trite.
Joining the military doesn’t automatically make you a hero. Many across this nation, completely unrelated to military service, put “their lives on the line” for this country.
Get off your special status “thank you for your service” gravy train. As a military member you have a job to do that you get paid for. Free housing, free healthcare, food allowance, clothing allowance, great defined-benefit retirement, heath care for life, continuous training. Entry requires no prior experience! We provide all training and pay you per diem while you receive that training. They’re doing what they’re getting paid to do. No snivelling if they don’t get a holiday greeting!
Human decency? Your “Happy Thanksgiving” military murdering 83 fisherman to date in international waters with more to come. No allegation, no trial, no jury, no prosecution, no validation of criminal activity and you’re trying to take a position on human decency? I’m sure that would be of the Christian kind, amirite? Specifically, MAGA Christian.

I have mixed feelings about the holiday Thanksgiving. On the one hand I’m all for celebrating anything that brings food and peoples together. On the other I’ve spent waaayyy to many Thanksgiving dinners with various partners and their families over the years to think of the day as anything but a bandaid on a wound that continues to bleed as you eat.

I have some thoughts. Oh, so many thoughts but I’ll do my best to keep it short.
I’ll begin with the old soldier troll who gets really mad if you question their service record but on the regular questions our host’s service as well as other notables on the site.
Where are their words of condemnation for the nation’s leader who placed those kids in harms way? Last I checked the National Guard is fairly helpless in domestic situations. Yes, they have firearms but also insanely restrictive regulations about the use of those weapons. This fact our shooter most definitely knew about, him being a CIA asset during the war. Y’all know once the CIA gets their hooks into there really isn’t an off ramp that doesn’t include someone’s death in the deal.
Nothing? Ok, how about the United States Military violating international and our own laws as it pertains to noncombatants aka people clinging to the side of a boat we just blew into next week? The SecDef may say they were only following the orders of the President but… LOL The Trump admin want’s their cake and to eat it too. Where is the old soldiers outrage about this? I mean this is huge right here. Veteran organizations across social media are livid ((LIVID)) about the intent to call Sen Mark Kelly back to active duty to court martial him for the crime of (checks notes) repeating the rules military personnel learn at their Drill Sergeant’s knee. As Belle of the Ranch says, the military trains before an event so soldiers know what to do. That video the congress critters made was a reminder of an oath that holds a soldier long past active duty.
No? Nothing? They (I won’t honor them with the adjective he as they’ve done nothing to prove their gender) so, they seem to have an issue about it must be Mikey and only Mikey saying “Happy whichever holiday we are celebrating now”. That said, if physical violence does ensue as our MAGA citizens seem hell bent on instigating, I hope their violent tendencies lead them into taking themselves out and leaving the rest of us alone.
I mention it because Nationalist Christians believe only their faith is real, correct?
So, once the Nationalist Christian coalition purges anyone not deemed loyal enough to Trump they are left with a body of loyalists but are they hermeneutically aligned?
Per Nationalist Christian dogma there can only be one interpretation which must then lead to only one person given that two people will always debate dogma (see Emo Phillips Greatest God joke ever for the best example of this concept if unfamiliar).

To my MRFF compatriots I hope this holiday season is kind to you. For me? Well, as previously noted my old Marine husband lost his war with cancer at the end of December. I’ve never been a fan of the commercialization of the season but now? I just want to escape to where there are no commercials for the month. I know, a dream for an old who is fully owned and subsidized by the United States Government.
At any rate, even when not here my thoughts and loves are with you. I am grateful for each of you, even our trolls.
