Chaplain Dundas, I am eternally grateful for people like you! In 1983, I was attending NCO Leadership School at March AFB, California. While I was there, my wife-to-be went to the Chaplains at Travis AFB to find someone who would conduct our wedding. She was a Jew, and I was a None (before the term existed!).
The Protestant chaplains refused to officiate, telling her things like her marrying me would result in my going to Hell. Finally, she reported all this to the Chief Chaplain — a Catholic Priest — who then gathered all the chaplains together and read them the Riot Act!
The Chief Chaplain officiated at our wedding at the main chapel at Travis AFB on 10 December, 1983. Eight days from today, we’ll celebrate our 42nd anniversary. She retired in August 1994, and I retired in December, 1997. And we are both grateful that the Chaplain upheld the mission of the chapel a long time ago, at a Galaxy base far, far away . . . .
Be sure to read ALL the comments on Dundas’ Substack page, especially the one from Bill Davis!.
