Dear Mikey,
For what it’s worth, I am retired Army medical corps, worked at USAFA as a conractor (radiologist) for 6 yrs, and, as you can imagine, at the hospital we were “immune” from the evangelical stuff…way back when, in South Georgia for 14 years, one of my partners and his wife were very “devout” southern type Christians, talked in tongues and all that stuff…but they were delightful and knew how to keep it at home. I applaud you for your efforts to put/get USAFA on track where it belongs, although you were basically ignored for years…this is a small, but impoortant “victory”…the biggest problem is that “they” don’t understand how prejudicial their actions are and have been, as “they” see it within (not only the religious perspective) but overall as a “good deed” or “promoting virtue”…yet some of these same folks, several years ago (Southern Baptist convention in Utah) were quick to claim that Mormons weren’t Christians and couldn’t/wouldn’t go to Heaven, despite their espousing a lifestyle that would put most of us to shame in terms of “virtue”. I don’t know how “religious” you are, Mikey, but one of the great positives of (our) Judiasm reflects back to the perhaps apocryphal story of Rabbi Hillel, who was asked to explain his religion while standing on one foot and simply recited what we call the ‘golden rule’ and then noted that the remainder was commentary!!! If you do ever/occasionally get badck to the Springs, let me know-I would love to share a glass or two of wine with you!
