VOLUNTEER JOB OPPORTUNITY
POSITION: Director of Volunteer & Internship Programs
REPORTS TO: Development Director & Grants/Database Administrator
SUPERVISES: Community Coordinators, Interns, and other volunteers as assigned
HOURS: Flexible; estimated 25-30 hrs/week
STATUS: This is a Volunteer Position (Estimated In-Kind Value of Position = $37,500)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Volunteer & Internship Programs is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining an exemplary volunteer and internship program to provide a supplementary workforce through the use of individual volunteers and interns. Unless specifically noted otherwise, all references to volunteers contained in this job description shall pertain to all general volunteers and academic interns.
The position goal is to significantly scale up volunteer leverage enabling MRFF to fulfill its mission.
Success in this position will ultimately result in volunteers with a deeper engagement and commitment to the mission of protecting members of the U.S. Military from unconstitutional religious (any religion) influence in relation to their training, assignment, advancement and retention.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning
• Coordination with existing MRFF staff and volunteers to determine demand for volunteer services including development of professional job descriptions, postings, recruitment and vetting.
• Identify prospects and recruitment goals.
• Develop and maintain best practices for all volunteers.
• Develop training/outreach materials to effectively conduct volunteer orientations.
• Represent the organization in a professional manner to potential volunteers.
• Direct the execution of an effective on-line and social media presence for volunteer activities.
• Develop a “skill based” professional group of volunteers to meet the unique needs of a growing
organization.
Leadership
• Clearly communicate the “Mission” ensuring everyone works toward the same goals.
• Ensure that responsibilities and authorities of volunteers are defined and understood. Establish goals,
monitor progress and provide coaching to enable volunteers to meet their goals.
• Delegate effectively without abdicating authority.
• Create a positive environment where two-way communication and strong trust are established.
• Recognize “achieving” volunteers and address those who do not meet expectations in a timely and fair
manner, terminating when necessary.
• Ensure volunteers are fully trained on the skills necessary for them to succeed.
• Provide volunteers with professional and personal growth opportunities as appropriate.
Reporting
• Report on demand fulfillment and recruitment goals quarterly.
• Develop and execute metrics and reporting program, to include reporting on recruitment goals, demand
fulfillment, volunteer status, volunteer hours, value of volunteer hours, etc.
• Efficiently manage the documentation process, scheduling and data collection
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
• Manage the coordination of appropriate and meaningful volunteer experiences.
• Ensure the volunteer experience is easy to access, meaningful to the volunteer, and productive for MRFF.
• Plan volunteer recognition activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Volunteer Management or appropriate related experience
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking.
• Highly organized.
• Ability to prioritize big picture ideas and execute into tangible actions.
• Excellent written, oral and social media communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to present effective and compelling messages to individuals, groups and the public.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse variety of individuals in politically and emotionally charged environment.
• Experience with Windows-based donor / volunteer software.
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Ability to work on a computer and phone from a home office situation.
