MRFF blasts USAFA as Armed Forces Bowl set to become national stage for Christian "football prayer" stunt

  • Annual ARMED FORCES BOWL will pit USAFA's Falcons versus the Cal Bears (UC Berkeley) at Texas Christian University's Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, TX

  • Further demonstrative Christian "Team Tebow" ceremonies expected tomorrow as USAF authorities refuse to censure unconstitutional behavior by Air Force Academy team.

Game will air TOMORROW on ESPN at
2:00 PM Eastern Time, Tues. 12/29/15.

From Michael L. "Mikey" Weinstein, Founder and President, Military Religious Freedom Foundation:

The Air Force Academy’s internal review of this matter is a pathetic sham and transparent farce of the highest order.

Let us not forget that it was hardly a respected, deconflicted and disinterested third party entity or outside agency that inquired into MRFF’s charges against the Academy of unlawful, orchestrated, Christian-sectarian team praying by its football players.

Indeed, having the Air Force Academy's very own Athletic Dept. essentially "investigate itself" in this sordid unconstitutional matter of fundamentalist Christian triumphalism and supremacy is about as "impartial and effective" as having Pol Pot "investigate" himself for his killing field crimes against humanity or having Bernie Madoff direct the "investigation" of his investment business for allegations of pyramid or Ponzi scheme illegalities.

COLORADO SPRINGS INDEPENDENT COVERS MRFF FIGHT

Prayer allowed at USAFA games

Monday, December 28, 2015

So that means Falcon football players most likely will kneel in the end zone tomorrow when Air Force plays University of California Berkeley in Fort Worth in the Armed Forces Bowl, starting at noon mountain time on ESPN.

Weinstein called the academy's review of the issue "a pathetic sham and transparent farce of the highest order."

COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE FEATURES ANTI-MRFF SCREED FROM LIBERTY INSTITUTE MOUTHPIECE

GUEST COLUMN: Foundation is on the wrong side of history and the law

Monday, December 28, 2015
  • The author, Michel Berry, is a mouthpiece for the far-right Christian fundamentalist organization, the LIBERTY INSTITUTE.

  • The Liberty Institute and MRFF have frequently come to blows. Most recently (see below), the "Institute" nominated Mikey for a mock "Scrooge Award" meant to marginalize the basic assertion of Constitutional religious protections

When it comes to religious freedom in our military, Weinstein and the MRFF are once again wrong on the history and the law. It is refreshing to see the Air Force Academy rebuff the MRFF's demands.

"SCROOGED" AGAIN? LIBERTY INSTITUTE TAKES AIM AT MRFF ADVOCACY WITH PHONY AWARD

Mikey nominated for 2015 "Scrooge Award" presented by the Liberty Institute

Friday, December 18, 2015

  • Sarcastic "nomination" a response to MRFF’s continual series of achievements in beating back Christian fundamentalist encroachments versus the U.S. Constitution and Armed Forces

  • Last year, Mikey was given the dubious "honor" of "winning" the 2014 "Scrooge Award for Anti-Religious Discrimination"

From Liberty Institute:

"Last year’s Scrooge Award recipient is at it again. Just last month, Mikey Weinstein—an attorney who once called for the court-martial of 400 Christian officers for sharing their faith—complained to the Air Force Academy about members of their football team holding hands and praying in the end zone before football games. It isn’t the first time Weinstein has gone after the Air Force and the Air Force academy. Last year, Weinstein complained about a cadet writing a Bible verse on his personal dorm dry erase board. The Air Force Academy is currently investigating the matter thanks to Weinstein’s complaint about a fundamental American right—the free expression of religion.

Do you think 2014 Scrooge Award holder Mikey Weinstein deserves the 2015 Scrooge Award? If so, vote here!"
