Ex-Navy (10+ yrs), ex-DOD (10+yrs), I’m horrified, terrified and angry that a loyalty oath to sxxthxxd is even mentioned out loud. I hope our love of democracy, freedom and American standards of decency will prevail. The options are unthinkable. Can we allow our experiment in democracy to die so easily? Have none of the people in power read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence? Or any history books, for that matter?

Jim, I feel your pain! My wife retired from the USAF at 18 years (early 1990s RIF), and I served a full 20 years in the Air Force. All of the things the Orange Ogre and Mr. Sneeze are doing to our armed forces threaten American security interests the world around. And frankly, it worries me beyond anything I’ve experienced in my 68 years.
I take small solace in the fact no nation or economic system survives forever. I just wish it wouldn’t end this way!

The ONLY saving of America, though severely damaged, is to take back the House AND the Senate next year. Without that, it’s over. I was the senior lawyer in the US Marine Corps in my last assignment. Reading about the proposed loyalty oath to Trump. I instantly remembered the 1961 film “judgment at nuremberg“. Hitler sustained murderous powers because senior officers had signed a personal loyalty oath to him. It must not happen here if ordered to sign or resign, do neither stay in office. If court martialed, you will be acquitted for not complying with an unconstitutional order.
