Response from MRFF Advisory Board Member James Currie

Having recently served as Executive Director of a not-for-profit organization, during which time I gained some knowledge of the compensation structure of the nonprofit world, it would appear that Charity Navigator overlooked a very important distinction between MRFF and certain other non-profits. To wit, many nonprofits have large budgets because they serve as pass-throughs for money given out in the form of grants. MRFF does not do that. The totality of its budget, I would suspect, is devoted to salaries and office overhead, including security personnel who protect MRFF’s employees from the whackos who threaten them on a regular basis. I am familiar with compensation of the Executive Directors/CEOs of perhaps thirty or thirty-five nonprofit groups, and I do not know one of them who puts in the hours that Mikey does. As you can verify, I am a regular contributor to MRFF, and I never feel more comfortable than when I am writing that check or sending that electronic contribution to MRFF.
