MRFF Advisory Board Member Mike Farrell Responds to a Detractor About Wreaths Across America: …to suggest “there is nothing religious about placing a wreath on a grave,” means you’re not paying attention.

To the MRFF
Wreaths Across America is taking place today and it is a BEAUTIFUL ceremony where we honor those who unlike you have REALLY fought for freedom. There is nothing religious about placing a wreath on a grave but you just love to complain don’t you. I have taken part in two such ceremonies and am very proud to say I did. You worry about a trifle like this instead of wishing our troops and veterans a Merry Christmas especially those who can’t be home. I agree with what that other writer said you really need to get a life!
An old Soldier who DOES NOT support you

Response from MRFF Advisory Board Member Mike Farrell
Hello (name withheld),
Old Soldier, eh?
By the use of your term “REALLY fought for freedom”, do you mean to suggest that the service of the women and men who did their duty for their country but didn’t face combat are somehow less deserving of respect for their willingness to do that duty than those who did? If so, your contempt for the millions who have served their time in past non-combat situations and those now away from home serving America across the world is an insult and a few of them might want to have a chat with you.
And of course if you were to meet such a person you could puff up your chest and sneer at her or him for not REALLY serving their country. If you were to do so I’d enjoy seeing the response.
It’s nice that you find the process promoted by Wreaths Across America to be a “BEAUTIFUL ceremony”, and it’s nice that you’re proud to “have taken part in two such ceremonies,” but to suggest “there is nothing religious about placing a wreath on a grave,” means you’re not paying attention.
Now, perhaps you’re one who thinks everyone is a Christian, or should be. Or perhaps you feel other faiths or belief systems don’t deserve the same honor and recognition as does Christianity. Kind of like the way you think only those who REALLY fought actually served in the armed forces. But see, Wreaths Across America has a decidedly Christian intention. Note their description of the wreath: “Each part of the wreath is significant and represents a different symbol. The evergreen structure symbolizes religious growth and rebirth. Adding cedar to a wreath symbolizes strength. Adding holly to the exterior of a Christmas wreath represents immortality. The holly thorns serve as the crown that Jesus wore during his crucifixion, and the red holly berries represent the blood He shed.”
Think about it, ‘old soldier.’ If you want to pay tribute at the graves of the fallen, be respectful of who they really were and don’t presume you know everything.

Funny how many old soldiers state that they fight for our rights when in reality, many of them work to undermine our rights.
You are lucky someone does the fighting for you Gunther.
Also, nice use of old photos from years ago (wreaths on graves) since you couldnt find any recent documented cases
Sorry Oscar, but veterans fighting for people’s rights doesn’t give veterans the right to undermine other people’s rights and people like Trump still think that veterans are suckers and losers.
Wasn’t me that put those photos. Take it up with Weinstein and Mike Farrell about it.
Gee Oscar, there are plenty of people who can’t join the military for various reasons though no fault of their own so are you going to expect them to thank veterans who fought for their rights but at the same time, the veterans denied rights of those people who couldn’t join the military?
My father was a marine and he is buried in our town cemetery. His headstone has a star of david. Every year I have to leave a note or find someone to contact to avoid having a wreath placed on his grave. How about a little religious sensitivity. Not everyone is Christian, It makes me stressed every year. My father was a proud Jew and would be offended by the placing of an xmas wreath
Nice ‘look over there’ Oscar. You reject evidence from a year or so ago yet you expect us to believe the “evidence” you posted on another thread which was published over a decade ago.
Nice double standard you’ve got there Oscar. I’m sure you squashed the voice of your conscious long ago.
By the way, the article referenced doesn’t say what you want it to say. I suggest some remedial reading for comprehension classes.
Oscar never served in the military. But he definitely has something to say about it like most armchair warriors!
Wasn’t the religious symbol on Christ’s tomb ….. a Star of David? Did I get the born a Jew part wrong?
From Bill Hick’s comedy, “You think when Jesus comes back he really wants to see another cross?” “You know, just a little reminder for you Jesus!”
Maybe that’s why he hasn’t come back yet, a bit too woke for the MAGA crowd! Lol.
Veterans fighting for your rights? Yeah sure Oscar. Tell that the the women who were in the two Gulf Wars who fear for their lives with regards to being raped by their own fellow male soldiers. Those male soldiers didn’t see the females as having rights but instead were viewed as sex objects and spoils of war.
To the victor go the spoils.
So you approved of rape even against your own fellow soldiers, Oscar?
No, of course not.
Then why did you say to the victor go the spoils?
