I would like you to know how terribly I am disappointed in your decision to disinvite Franklin Graham to the National Day of Prayer at the Pentagon. The concept of being politically correct has turned into a practice of trying to please fractions of people in our society. It is utterly impossible to appease each group of people. My advice to you would be to aim for the majority which, in this case, happens to be Christians. I implore you not to crumble under pressure or fear to any group, especially those who do not represent the majority of those in the military or this country.
First, the comment Mr. Graham made regarding Islam being evil does not require an apology. He has the freedom to speak his beliefs, just as any of us do who are citizens of this great country. Those in the military have served and died for this very right. This should not be about Muslims versus Christians or vice versa. It is about one’s right to speak, the rights of others to listen and the rights of others not to. It’s about FREEDOM!
Secondly, I would like to point out something about the Koran, the “Bible” of those who practice Islam. Have you ever read it? You would discover what Mr. Graham is referring to. He was not carelessly speaking his opinion; he was giving factual information. Maybe we should heed the warning? The Koran teaches that “infidels” should be killed if they do not convert to Islam. Unless you are Muslim, you and I are the infidels Muhammad refers to. As I am sure that you are aware, those who killed over 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001 practiced Islam as well as those who are killing our men and women in uniform each day in the Middle East with road side bombs and more. Call these practices what you wish. If there was a stronger word for it than evil, I would be using it. I understand your fears regarding Mr. Graham’s comments stirring up Muslim extremists. Based on the previously mentioned acts, Sir, I believe they are already “stirred.”
I am deeply disturbed and greatly disappointed in the leadership of this country at the present time. We need strong leadership again, not those who are controlled and driven by the whims, whines and threats of minority groups. God help us.
Respectfully,
(name and location withheld)
