Nowhere in the Constitution is there any mention of “separation of
church and state”. You should call your organization “Godless heathens
who are going to hell” the sooner the better.”
(name withheld)
Dear Mr. Hosier,
I can’t even begin to tell you how nice it is to hear from a
Constitutional Scholar like yourself and not just another
Fundamentalist Christian imbecile incapable of thinking for himself
who parrots half truths and lies he heard on Faux News or from a 700
Club broadcast.
I hope you’ll forgive me, but your remarks remind me of the comment by
one of delegates to the Constitutional Convention from South Carolina
who, in arguing against codifying a Constitution and Bill of Rights,
stated that it was his concern that “some idiot in the future” would
try to argue that the only rights naturally afforded to all mankind,
and afforded to Americans specifically by the Founding Fathers would
be those specifically enumerated. Basically what he was saying was
that he could foresee the day when an intellectually vacuous
individual such as yourself would make an idiotic statement like you
just made.
The reality is that the First Amendment provides us with the
Establishment Clause (you can look that up on the Internet, if you
know how), and numerous Founding Fathers wrote independently of the
need to keep Church and State as far away from each other as possible.
It was, in fact, Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to a minister, who
declared that the Constitution would essentially provide for a “wall
of separation” between Church and State. Then there is the famous
quote by James Madison, one of the authors of the Constitution: “The
purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from
these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe
with blood for centuries.” Yes, that was our Founding Father, James
Madison speaking there. And of course we have the famous Treaty of
Tripoli, which was signed in Tripoli in 1796 and was submitted to the
U.S. Senate by (Founding Father) John Adams in 1797 and UNANIMOUSLY
ratified by the U.S. Senate that same year. Article 11 of the
aforementioned Treaty of Tripoli reads, “As the Government of the
United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the
Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against
the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said
States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any
Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext
arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of
the harmony existing between the two countries.”
And finally, regarding your ridiculous inference that those who work
to support and defend the religious freedoms of all service men and
women, as well as veterans, are somehow “Godless” – well, as it turns
out, you’ve demonstrated that you actually are just another
Fundamentalist Christian imbecile incapable of thinking for yourself
who parrots half truths and lies you’ve heard on Fox News and from the
pulpit of some religious predator. Like Mr. Weinstein, I am a Jew and
I am far from “Godless;” and thankfully, unlike you, I have enough
intellectual integrity and curiosity to check out the truth about
things before I start spouting off inane platitudes. You might do well
to head the advice that it is better to remain silent and have others
think you’re a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt.
One finally thing…..I was wondering, are you the Bruce Hosier who is
the mayor of Portland, Indiana, or are you the Bruce Hosier that got
in trouble for having sex with his high school teacher? I don’t know
which would be more tragic, but the sex with the teacher thing was
particularly disgusting since that individual was home schooled.
Very Respectfully,
Akiva David Miller
